Refrigerate Fruiting Cakes?
    #14717923 - 07/04/11 10:14 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

So I have some cube cakes fruiting, they're halfway ready to pick. Yay, right? Well.... I'm going on vacation on Wednesday, I expected the fruits to be done by then but they're only halfway done. Can I have my friend keep them in his fridge in a container for 8-9 days? I think they should be okay but I wanted to check with the "experts"
If they can be kept refrigerated that long, should they be misted and should he still fan them daily? Their "metabolisms" should be at a halt so theoretically they shouldn't need FAE's but I don't know.
If they shouldn't be put into the chiller for that long, should I pick them and then refrigerate them?
Time is of the essence, I need to know what to do by Tuesday night :O thanks for the help guys/girls

Why not just have your friend turn off your dehydrator on Thursday & put them in an air-tight container?

I'm kinda confused on your question.

Or, do you want to put the cakes w/ fruits in the fridge?

I know you can stall colonized jars and cakes before birth, but I don't know about after birth.

If I were you I'd just harvest whatever is there, before you leave, then seal and refrigerate the cakes. Put them back in their original jars and throw them all in the fridge.

I'd also like to know what happens afterwards, if you can dunk them afterwards and have them continue fruiting.

So I'm going away for 8 days with three cakes that have fruits which are halfway grown. Should I refrigerate the cakes with the mushrooms still attached OR should I pick what's left then stick the cakes in the fridge?

I might pick off what I have and refrigerate the cakes, I'll see what others say though.

Pick Tuesday night just before bed & dunk immediately afterwords.

Put back in the FC Wednesday morning & see how they fair.

You have to learn how to time your grows around major life changes/vacations/responsibilities, etc.
