Mycelia nutrient requirements
    #1471411 - 04/18/03 09:42 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Greets,
I posted in the regular cult forum and was told I might have better luck here...

What are the nutritional requirements of mycelia growing in glass jars? I've extrapolated from posts relating to honey water / dextrose additives in the jar that perhaps a sugar analogue is what they neet, to contradict that I've been told that the times and pressures that I sterilize my jars at (20PSI 1h30min exposure time) carmalizes the sugars and would prohibit growth (tho I've never experienced that). I've also been told the same thing about proteins. If anyone knows exactly what the nutritional requirements are or what the ideal set of variable is, let me/us know and I'll personally do some experimentation and see what works best. Thanks!

the mushroom cultivator is a very nice book, but it doesnt have the info u requested (i think u want the minimum amount of nutrients needed to sustain a mushroom crop. The answer is as long there is some nutrients it will grow, it may not fully mature, or produce significant fruits but it will use up what little nutrients it can get to, and then die of stravation. the more nutrients the better, and there is no such thing as too much!

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
