How difficult is it to strangle someone to death
    #14712605 - 07/03/11 08:05 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Was just watching 'Inglorious Bastards', fantastic film, one of Tarantino's best, and was reflecting on the scene where Christopher Waltz strangles the actress playing the actress whose name I cannot remember.

I've never seen anyone strangled to death, and am curious as to how accurate this is in the film, and much else of similar cinema. Anyone on these boards have any experience, either strangling someone to death or being strangled to death?

(Okay, that last sentence is a bit tongue in cheek, but it's a real question.)

If you know how, not all that hard.
It's a matter of technique as much as strength.
Not that I've done it- but I've studied it.

Not hard at all. I've choked guys out before fighting my friends in the back yard as a kid. I imagine the straight forward hands to the throat "rape choke" is pretty tough to pull off though.

Thumbs on top of the esophagus and push as hard as you can. It's not hard unless the victim fights back and kicks you in the balls or something.

It's a lot easier to strangle someone when they're not moving. It's crazy how people go under too.

Is the goal too strangle them until they're dead, or strangle them long enough to leave then unconscious and unable to breath?

if they're unable to breathe then they're pretty much dead so I guess death is the goal

So it's not like Metal Gear Solid where only a little pull puts a few timed stars over the head with light force?

All I've ever seen in person is shots and stabs, never a strangle.

Yeah, to kill 'em, but what about just to make 'em sleep? As opposed to a risky blunt-force blow to the dome.

yes, it cuts off the blood to your head.

that's how you fall 'asleep', sometimes permanently.

No sir, it is not. An army buddy put one of my friends into a sleeper hold and he passed out and woke up 5 min later.

He had no idea where he was or what the fuck was going on. So we told him we kidnapped him and if he went outside a bunch of guys would jump out of the bushes and go after him.

In retrospect it was a shitty thing to do, but it was so fuckin funny. He really had no idea what the fuck was going on. And when he finally decided to leave the party about an hour later, he sprinted to his car, looking behind him to make sure the people in the bushes weren't coming after him.

I've never seen someone so disoriented and gullible in my life. And that's so out of character for him.

I guess I should have known. I did this thing once where I inhaled some smoke
and had a friend push on my chest while I was standing against the wall. I blacked
out and woke up on the floor.

Silly question I suppose.

And I thought wrestling was fake...

The RNC targets the veins and arteries, not so much the air supply.

Blood chokes are way dedlier than air choke. You can fight off an air choke as long as you can hold your breath. If you get caught in a solid blood choke, you have about 10-15 seconds of embarrassing flailing before you're out

Also, great way to choke someone to death, fucking smash their throat in with a single punch. Done and done, walk about with them stuggling against no one

^That is good info.

BUT I have to add that you guys might be getting the wrong picture about a blood choke like a rear naked choke. If you put someone out with one, and let go relatively soon after they go out, they won't be asleep longer than a minute or two and then come to all disoriented. I suppose 5 minutes is possible especially if you hold it a bit longer but yeah...you're not gonna get someone to sleep for 10+ minutes, or at least not without taking a major risk. :aweman:

Depends on how much wrestling experience they have. I trained in jujitsu for three years and we spent a lot of time on choke and strangle holds and neck cranks. Both applying them and getting out of them. I got pretty damn good at weaseling out of any sort of hold around the neck but I could usually get an arm bar across the trachea of anyone with less experience than me.

NO, it depends on their grappling experience.

I LOVE grappling wrestlers, cause they always give up their back, hahahaha. They're the easiet ones to choke out, it's fucking ridiculous

Grappling- submission holds

wrestling- pinning you down

I do brazilion jiu jitsu on a daily baises and choke people all the time lol all in good fun of course but i have also trained kung fu techniques where one rips the throat out of another individual, very graphic but thats tiger style shaolin kungfu for you lol. but I think i understand what your saying, choking someone to death with ones own hands right? I would never do this because it is bad technique in my oppinion but the throat is a very delicate part of the body and can be crushed. Depending on the persons participating I think it could be done relatively easy one you have secured a dominate position and secured the lock on the throat there would be little an untrained person could do to defend that once its put on. I know people who have been on both the receiving end and giving end of this and it has been successful both ways, good question, good post.
