No longer need drugs to feel good
    #1466040 - 04/17/03 12:37 AM (20 years, 11 months ago)

I feel wonderful. For such a long time, I would smoke weed whenever I had it, and if I didn't, I would drink. I was uncomfortable being sober. But now, I've gotten to a point where sobriety is a beautiful thing to me. I haven't given up pot or alcohol or any of the other drugs I used to do, but I've learned to get by just fine without them, and I feel really good about it.

Was it just an overnight change? I had a very similar experience, woke up one morning and just quit smoking. It shocked me more than anything and the clearness that you feel in your mind after a week or two is amazing. Plus I know that smoking weed every two or three weeks is gonna be great and the high is gonna be everything that I ever thought it was.

No, it didn't happen overnight. It happened after a period of smoking frequently with a certain friend of mine. After a while, being stoned didn't seem all that different from being sober.

I too am trying to overcome the same problem. Reality just seems so boring without being in an altered state.

In my case, I realized I wasn't using the drugs to feel good anymore, I was only using them to mask the pain. I realized that I no longer enjoyed using them, I was taking them for their sedative, numbing effects rather than for mood or spiritual enhancement. I realized, that drugs truly WERE bad, maybe the propaganda had some vein of truth to them. When I had used up all my dope, I decided not to purchase another bag. No withdrawals, nothing, just a general feeling that I did what I thought was right gave me enough euphoria to lift my spirits.

If I could, I'd never blaze again (well maybe special occasions), but I can't cause of peer pressure

Dumping my "friends" helped me in that respect. The tradeoff? Now I'm lonely....

It took me a long time to realize that being on drugs all the time is not good - another part of life where a careful balance is suggested

There are definately times when sobriety is desirable. I'm glad you found the willpower to do what makes you happy...Thats very cool...

i smoked from the age of 15 pretty much everyday till november of last year (8 years) when i decided that it was time to tone down a bit. I have the ocassional toke up but otherwise, i feel that i don't have to smoke weed all the time...i can enjoy it once in a while. It does feel great being sober and appreciating the fact that you don't need drugs to feel happy
