Bringing this one back up to say a couple things. 6 months from having a 1000$ truck that wouldn't start half the time and nothing more than than about a weeks worth of clothes and I've got a nice, not new but nice and paid for truck, and my own house. Fuck the drugs, yeah, they are great but if you "would kill for a job like this" go out and get it. The work is out there. I don't even make much an hour but I work my ass off every day. If you want it bad enough and are willing to work its more than possible. Believe in yourself even if no one else does. I was highly depressed when I made this topic because I was working my ass off and not seeing where it would get me. Now that shit is all comming together for me I'm glad I've stuck it out and held on. I've started moving up in pay and they are going to hire ME some help to make my job easier because even though I try as hard as I can to keep up it simply isn't possible for me to do everything they want done in a day. I realized this a long time ago but kept trying as hard as I could to get the job done and its finally getting noticed. But if a depressed so called "hopeless drug addict" can pull themselves together and hold on long enough it is possible to make something out of yourself. This probably isn't the place to post this as it is just ment to give others hope and maybe inspire someone to get out and try harder than they ever dreamed was possible but this is my topic so I figured I would say it here. I'm not claiming its easy but what I do doesn't require an education. It just requires hard work so I know anyone can do it if they try. Just a few months ago I wouldn't haved believed what I'm saying but I just kept pushing myself. I've proved to myself what I can do simply by getting off my ass and trying to better myself. It has done a lot for me mentally and physically. I was so damned depressed thinking I could never make it on my own. For me drugs were not the answer to the situation I was in. Proving to myself that I could make something of myself was. I'm not really saying I'm happy with this job because its physically hard and I do have the education and ability to do better but I didn't realize it untill I hit bottom and realized there was no where to go but up. You think you have nothing? Then you have nothing to loose by trying. I dug my own grave but I can't believe how fast I'm getting out of it.

Btw, this isn't aimed at most of the people that posted here as the topic itself was ment to attract the attention of people who are doing well in life but I wanted to post this for anyone that might read it that thinks they are stuck where they are and can't get out and make it in this world. I may fall back down to where I was but if I stay down its only because I've given up. Never again... I hope. Its no longer a question of if it can be done. The only question imo is about being willing to do whatever it takes. 6 months ago I was pretty much homeless trying to find friends and family that would let me sleep on the couch for a few nights, rotating the places I would sleep in hopes that I wouldn't over stay my welcome and get told not to come back. One step up from living on the streets basically. I knew I couldn't keep it up long without being able to at least earn my keep and find someone willing to let me do it.

Good job. I bet you can be even better off going forward. And I mean this in the most non-confrontational way I can, but don't be too too proud of the job you have.

Nope, I didn't take it wrong. You might have taken me wrong though. This job is really shitty compaired to a lot of jobs but that's to be expected doing something most anyone can do. The fact of the matter is I'm proud of myself for actually getting off my ass and doing something and sticking with it no matter how bad I wanted to sleep in or do drugs to excape my thoughts. I don't feel like I have much to excape from anymore. I'm not saying drugs are bad or whatever, I just realized I was taking them for the wrong reasons. I didn't care about anything but getting away from reality because I wasn't happy with myself. I'm not really proud of this job but I am proud myself for not leaving before I had a better one to go to or a real plan for farther education.

I have a contract job that surprisingly did not ask that I drug test, even though the job is delivering narcotics and other medical supplies to health care centers(they did do an extensive background check).  I suppose the reason I didn't have to take a drug test is precisely because it's a contract job.  Too bad I don't smoke pot anymore.  It seems like the kind of job where you could actually smoke on the job while making the deliveries.

Anyway, based on this, my advise is to look for contract work.

I think you can be proud of your job :crankey:

If you just collect a pay check and sit there at work doing things half ass then no you can't be proud.  If you work steady and have confidence in your work I don't see the problem in being proud of yourself :um:

I have a job washing auto bays and garage floors at 4 car dealerships.  I love it and can't get enough because once you find a company where you can work up it's really fun to enjoy what you do in the entry level years so when you're managing people it's that much better. :awesome:

Life is rough, the world is fucking disgusting and the adults that you hated growing up are the ones that were right all along.  No drugs don't make you happy, they make you numb.  I was just thinking this today.  I want to bust my ass so I can be someone in society, bitch about taxes and maybe pop some benzos if I'm drinking at the bar.  The day in and day out getting high is not as rewarding as being an actual person that is benefiting himself and his fellow man.
