Man I have so much to learn about all things botanical haha, I was told it was a maple of some sort so I just assumed it was. Thanks for filling me in on what it actually is.

It copes pretty well really, it gets moved around a bit depending on season, needs a fair bit of watering through the hotter parts of summer, and the pot sits up to let it drain through properly so it doesn't get all waterlogged.

It's not been trained in anyway for a long time now, although where it's normally positioned has kept it growing roughly in the same direction, as the sunlight hits from that side.

I think your posts have probably inspired me a bit to pay some more attention to it, cheers

Man, how awesome Symon! What a cool experiment. I love all of your bonsai work as well - makes me want to start some bonsai trees... I just inoculated a huge pile of woodchips with a bunch of Wine Cap mycelium  - I hope mine grow with the ease that yours seem to!

ya man, training is things like wiring your branches and trunks the propper way, leaf cutting for species with bigger leaves that need to shrink , bud pinching to get small pine needles , pruning etc. its an ancient art invented by the chinese and perfected by the japanese .

everyone kills a few trees on the way man, its still worth it. its like mushroom hunting, it takes some homework.

You should get that tree out of there so the mushrooms have more room to grow. It looks stunted anyways.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

I would have thought the leaves of most eucalypts were too big for bonsai. Other than that an eucalyptus bonsai would be awesome.

I keep getting seedlings to train as bonsai but end up neglecting them and they turn into trees.
