what is this: trich, bruising?

my dogs a little confused as to what this greenish-blue crap is on the cakes.
on this cake, it just looks like bruises from finger imprints:

but on this cake, the crap started off with just a few specs which then spread across 1/3 of the cake:
<
i know this probably the trich-bitch, but is it common for a fully colonized cake to be taken over like this (the dog always lets his jars colonized for at least a week after it appears fully colonized)?

if it moves then its not bruising and you need to chuck those cakes and look into why it happened. Jake H

Looks like trich to me. If they get darker in color, and its more greenish than bluish, Pitch'em.
Did you handle/touch the cakes at all?

Looks like trich. Soak them in a .5 - 1% bleach solution in the fridge. You don't usually see cakes contam. Was there uncolonized substrate at the area of infection?
Also, make sure to drench your fruiting chamber with some 10% bleach and replace your moisture substrate if you can. Make sure your temps are were they are supposed to be.
After you rebirth your bleached cakes, mist lightly with a 1-2% peroxide solution until the mycelium recovers.
Good luck!

Bruising has a more blue tint to it and doesn't spread. That looks like a contamination to me too, sorry.
My friend has never had trich attack a fully colonized cake.

Okay, I just took another look at those pics and can see plenty of uncolonized substrate. Next time, you might want to avoid this by letting your cakes become 100% colonized for a week before birthing.
Wash off that bare substrate and try what I've said above. You'll need to keep those cakes peroxidated until all signs of bare substrate are covered in white.

yeah, my dogs never had a fully colonized cake get contaminated either, until now. fortunatly, he thinks he may know what caused it: he got tired of having to wait an extra week for the bottom of the PF jars to colonize so he thought he'd try putting a thin layer of PURE vermiculite at the bottom of the jar, followed by BRF/verm, and then another layer of pure vermic on top to serve as the contam barrier- creating, in a sense, "double-cased" PF cakes. the good news is that the cake bottoms didn;t take as long, bad new is the contam. the correlation between this being the first time he's tried this AND the first time he's ever had a colonized cake contam leads me to believ that one caused the other. furthermore, the contams are all in the area of this new layer. what u think? i think he'll be OK by just removing the contams (and then some) with a knife and soaking in perox/water.

I'm thinking that verm soaked up some nutrients and became trich preschool.
It sucks, but you might just get some fruits. Whether or not you should eat them is another story...

Bruising doesnt move at all, if it started as spots and is now bigger, then its contam-i guess the verm on bot idea wont work out. and if you have probs with the bottoms taking too long to colonize then use a teaspoon or two less water in your substrate, you'll notice a difference and it will be more fluffier, and colonize faster. Better luck next time. Jake H
