Depends.... Given the time of year and type of bulk sub material used.

Manure based subs always got bagged up and given to a friend to burry in his garden during the warm months, in the winter I just broke it up and placed it in the regular garbage.

Verm/coir or otherwise non manure based bulk substrates, I make tea out of.

you can make quite active tea with it or if you live in a climate that permits this; mix them in your garden with straw and horse manure in the shade.

haha no garden. I live in the city. What's the best way to dispose of it? I'm not looking to make anymore use of it. It's coco coir/verm.

Where I live we have a compost pickup if you have that break it down and toss it in there if not put it in a bag and throw it in a park or just out in a garbage bag in your garbage or in a street garbage

Ah...

Bring a pot of water to a light boil, break up your substrate and weigh it down with a jar of water or something else and then set the stove to simmer for roughly 45 minutes, strain the liquid through coffee filters 4-5 times and place it into a empty pop bottle.

Spent mycelium is ripe with aborts and psilocybin and bottes of mushroom tea are great party favors.

You could break it up really really well and flush it down the toilet?

I always put my throwaway substrate in the same trash bag that I use to clean out my ferret cage.

I hate living in the city.

When I had no outside place to dump them, I dumped them in the garbage like everyone else, double bag, dumpster. These days I have a nice place thats a short walk to dump them and I get some more now and then.

Depends. I happen to have a friend who adds it to his compost. But, it's a rare situation, probably. Bury it shallow somewhere, with some food, and wish it good luck.

does the tea just taste like shroom juice or does it develope a new "flavor"? like is it hard to drink(i.e. get it down and keep it down)?

Just break it up and dump it in your garbage.

Consider the odds of someone going through your garbage, the odds of that person finding your spent substrate, the odds of that person recognizing it as psilocybe mushroom mycelium, and the odds that person giving a shit about it...  A certain degree of paranoia is inevitable and advisable in this hobby, obviously, but figuring out creative ways to dispose of spent substrate is unnecessary, IMO.
