no pc experiment. you must believe!!

soo i use my pc for every jar ive ever had grains inside of.. i will attempt to do a grain to grain transfer with a batch of non pc'd rye berries.. just simmered to perfection.. and be very careful not to get them to dirty when they are done.. when i do a graint to grain with a fully colonized jar to 7 jars of un colonized rye it take about 5 days to become colonized.. i personally dont think this is enough time for a contam to take hold... but anyways.. we will see.. i will start tomorrow with my soak..pics will be included with a walk through. opinions anyone? experiences?... is this experiment a waste of my time? LOL probably. and this naturally happened, i promise... i know you think its amazing!

That pic is awsome but u really should at least boil the rye in a jar or somthing. But try it and lets see, good luck.

I think if you use a high ratio of colonized grain, it can be done. Boiling cripples or kills most bacteria

only simmered. no pc rye berries. i am only doing one jar.. i felt that 7 would could be a waste of my time.. but an experiment none the less. i am only going to use 2 rounded table spoons of spawn. i will keep it sparate from my other jars incase it does contam.. i more concerend about there being to much water in there than i am contams. im put in in the fridge to wait 24hrs for the others to come out of the pc to do them all at the same time..

Interesting experoment though we pressure cook to kill bacterial endospores which survive steam sterilisation.
5 days would be plenty time for bacteria to atleast colinise a small portion of the substrate. which would make it useless for grain to grain transfers and i dont think it would be much use for bulk either.
alot of failed bulk grows have been the result of a hiding contam from spawn.

ok good point.. a couple important questions.. i have been going a little less with my pc lately.. only about 30mins at 15psi.. is this stupid for me to do?.. i keep hearing about these endo spores.. if my rye colonizes completely.. your saying there could be a contam in it still?.. i dont understand..i am only flushing my poo three times max.. i realy hate to be saying this but i havent seen any contams yet. i would hate to lose an entire tub over something like not pcing for the extra 15 minutes.

You are suppose to PC grain for 1.5 hours and yes you could have hidden contams that will show up later to ruin your grow

IMO only 1 jar is a waste of your time.. not exactly a very conclusive test. No controls? Good luck but I predict it probably won't end well, you very well may get lucky.. but there' a reason we PC whole grains.

LOL i hear you i have pcd like 150 jars sucessfully.. i know theres a reason silly. i just feel that in nature.. the ground isnt pressure cooked. i just wanted to try and see if i could succesfully colonize it, that is all. i guess if i were to be all natural, i would only soak and maybe pasturize

but on the other hand my pinsets arent perfect. could that be something to do with hidden contams?..

Perfect pinsets come from perfect conditions. 100% colonization, proper moisture content, ideal fruiting conditions/humdity/FAE and light... Also a strong strain is just as big of a factor. This is why an isolated strain will almost always produce a much better pinset than a multispore. Hidden contams could potentially cause uneven pinsets but they are not even close to being a major factor in what makes a perfect pinset.

i want them soo bad. i already know my reason for not having nicer pinsets.. 1 no fan in my room 2 no temerature control 3 i have never used a hygrometer in any of my grows 4 i only use natural daylight 5 im a noob with monos. i definetly need to work on my FAE

Yup. One jar proves nothing, no matter how it ends up.

No way.

BTW, good luck either way. I'd hate to hear you wasted a jar of grain like this, but I've steam sterilized popcorn successfully so hopefully this will turn out well.

o shit... thanks man... hey one more question.. if i have been pcing for only 30-45 mins up to this moment without any contams.. do you think i should change my method?. maybe up it to an hour? i guess i just dont fully believe in these incredibly heat tolerant endospores. hmmmmm
