It's part of the buddhist religion. Very little to do with what the buddha himself taught. The buddha was quite rational.

I have a chinese "friend" who is a buddhist psychic healer who claimed this. I let him try all his stuff on me with no results. He had no explanation and mine was that I was unwilling to go along with anything he said. He said I had offended him and was not treating him as a friend.

Hes fos. Lives alone and terrified of women but always on the lookout for one that he can bs about his enlightenment. I'm sorry but the guys a outright liar imo. Highly respected in the buddhist community here. Terrified of taking drugs and never has but acts like an authority on there effects on the "subtle" body etc.

true but this is of course if the Self inquiry is left incomplete, any real sadhana should remove itself
you sometimes seem worried that i think i've attained a formless state & believe it to be the ultimate Nirvana, but remember i don't claim to have attained anything, i appreciate your compassion to try & push me deeper into truth tho

The truth is hilarious. I mean we wonder what this is. Well, it's this! Everything 'else' kind of amounts to nothing (but is full of fun little knowledge games to play). I don't know what to do with myself now except just overanalyse and start threads about whether or not there's a self. This is all beyond self, beyond opposites, before it all becomes mind... It's so silly...

we're all a bunch of conscious energy inside of surrogate bodies trying to remember our true selves, and the stupid ones don't think there is anything to remember.

I think it's the ones that presume to know how the universe works that are the stupid ones if anyone is.
