@jon
I'm hoping so, I really don't think the lack of rain matters much though as long as the temps stay below 10, and theres frost every morning.

I found alot of my best spots where still soaked even when it hadn't rained for several days, I'm guessing its just the thick morning dew.

@anycolourfloyd
welcome to the forum, but theres no asking for specific spots or locations.
what kind of areas did you search? Checking areas with lots of pine and eucalyptus tree, bark and mulch is a good start.
If you found a spot with 10 you could start by searching the area better, if there is 10 in the area, there should definitely be more around there after a decent amount of rain.

mushrooms left behind can blow spores around for next year / provide someone else with a trip (that person may not even use the internet)

I believe this year due to the great season we've, has given newbs the idea they should be coming home with a layed out newspapers full, everytime.

@anycolorfloyd, negs on the locations and besides sounds like you already have a spot which is already better than most noobs who struggle even to find one. Not aimed at you but people that come here wanting locations or all the work done for them is just one massive facepalm, ive spent countless hours hunting for nothing but they eventaly paid off and now i pick heaps just takes time and luck

I come home with way more then laid out newspapers full, and I leave behind probably 5000 subs (just that I've seen) everytime. :shrug:
I get what your saying and agree don't ever take more then you need, but how big someones haul is isn't directly related to their respect level for a patch and the environment it lives in.

Hey all, had a bit of success this weekend. About one hundred odd. More than i will need for one year.

I do feel like a bit of a douche though as i have not been on here long and i did the cardinal sin and asked for help. So i am sorry. But happy to say that it only took 3 seasons and this year i have been pretty committed and it has paid off.

For three years of hunting, I like to look at it this way.... now i know so many beautiful parts of SA that i would not have known otherwise.

I would post some pics if only i knew how....(noob alert)

Anyone else have luck over the weekend?

Cheers

This weekend I found that it was quite dry from the dry spell we've been having. But i guess it all depends on which area your looking as many spots would hold their moisture better than others I would assume..

Will go for a hunt tomorrow never the less and see what I can find.

Yeah heaps of places manage to retain moisture like what Austrip said, pine would probably be good for that as you can hardly see the sky in some areas it'd get fark all sun.

yeah, borderline snowing.

what is the optimum time (number of days) to look after a heavy rain such as today?

read the rules

Quote:

5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting.
As a general rule of thumb, if it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is very likely that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.
