Ahh so it takes heavy water to create/isolate plutonium? I didn't see it mention anything about U-235 so they must've been trying to make an implosion type bomb.

"In nuclear weapon development, the main problem is securing sufficient "weapons grade" material, in particular the fissile isotopes of either uranium-235 (235U) or 239Pu. In order to produce weapons grade uranium, one may elect to extract uranium from natural ore and enrich it. Alternately one can "breed" plutonium in a nuclear reactor using unenriched uranium as a fuel and then chemically separate the 239Pu produced. Unlike the Allies, who chose to pursue both the enrichment of uranium and production of plutonium in reactors, German scientists elected to focus on plutonium production, as the industrial complex required to make weapons this way was less expensive"
I don't know what kind of weapon they were trying to make(don't know enough bout nukes), it states here that they were using this method because of cost effectivness.

Remember that these were the pioneering days of nuclear technology. The Germans had put their money on a heavy water reactor, but it later turned out that light water reactors can also be used to produce plutonium (e.g. the RBMK design at Chernobyl).

Alright interesting never knew they didn't try enriching U-238 to 235 and making a bomb that way (seemed easier to me) - but the methods to separate the two isotopes at the time required tons of infrastructure.. Though all you really need is uranium ore and the machines to separate it (to my knowledge), had they started work with this method early in the war they probably would've had a functional bomb by the end of it.

Isn't that fucked to think about? Imagine, Hitler dropping the bomb on England, or him attempting to deliver it to the us(I believe he had bases in central america).

Too bad America got it first. We're too big a pussies to use it to dominate the world. But we coulda forced everyone in the world to be free by nuking their governments into the ground and threatening to do it again unless they became baddass like America. But NOOOO! We just held onto them until every communist country had them and then had a cold war and left the mass killing to other nations with guts.... as long as they didn't use nukes. Then we became the most powerful nation in the world anyway, and decided to police the world and "nation build" But we coulda done it really cheap and really easier 65 years ago.
