All this fighting about the filters is asinine. I am a newb who hasn't cultivated anything but trich but I've done enough research to know there are so many variables in play here that what works for one person might not work for another. It seems like one person can do agar work in a vat of raw sewage and be fine and someone else can try to knock up a 1/2 pint brf cake after bathing in bleach in an operating room and fail. This is a huge hyperbole but you know what I mean. If coffee filters work for Yosh then good for him. He's luckier than most but this technique could easily fail for others. Trial and error, this is NOT an exact science!

The math does not and will not add up.
the average coffee filter pore size is 5 to 100 microns and Most fungal spores range from 1 to 100 microns in size with many types between 2 and 20 microns. Bacteria range in size from 0.1 to 15 micron, with some " giants "that may reach half a millimeter.
Its like trying to stop ping-pong balls with a volleyball net.
yup... and they work with 100% success... I have seen EXACTLY that same quote.. so it sounds like you have read about it, and have NOT tried it..
I dont waste my time on tyvek, cause I dont need it.. I get coffee filters dirt cheap.. and they work fine..
sooo yeah.. dont just quote stuff you heard.. try them, and see if you get any more contams than you do with polyfill or tyvek...
seriously.. I N E V E R NEVER NEVER EVER get contams with coffee filters, and you would probably change your opinion if you ACTUALLY TRIED IT.. lol
booya..
taking a guess that you still have the verm layer on top?

This thread has been closed.
Reason: Necromancy.
Also, coffee filters don't stop contaminants. You can hold them up to the light and see huge holes that visible dust can get through. A microscopic spore would sail right through them.
