Agghh! What's going on!?

The mycelium in some of my jars stopped growing, now it looks like it's actually dissapearing! It also seems to be looking dull, lifeless and kind of yellowish.

Any ideas? It looks like the cakes are still fairly moist - not dry in any case.

Thanks, but I've already read that.

The jars are kept at a constant 30 deg C (86 deg F), in the dark. I check them about once a day. The only thing I was wondering about, is maybe some moisture (that's built up all over the incubating tub) has dripped down into the holes in the tinfoil that I punched when innoculating. I've since covered all the holes with tape but maybe...maybe...that's it???

It actually looks like it's slowly retracting! Sports of substrate are beginning to show through where there previously weren't any. I think it's also going a kind of dull yellow on the edges (or is that just my imagination?)

Just in case you're wondering about moisture in the incubating tub, it's due to my method of heating. I've got water and paroxide in a big tub, and my jars sit in that (about an inch up the sides). I've got an aquarium heater in there and the lid on.

Just a thought, you probley dont have to check them everyday.. I know i do.. i have to leave my self notes not to check the jars :crazy:

Hehe. Can't do that - they're sitting in an inch and half of water, remember? It woiuld easily leak through the tinfoil lids

Take the tape off the holes, put some sterile guaze or synthetic cotton over each one, and then put tape over each to secure to the lid. This should keep the water from getting in while allowing for air exchange.

no, they shouldn't. next time around man, do yourself a favor and buy a pressure cooker, some quart jars, some millet, some polyfil, and skip all this crap.

Nah, I'm not that serious about it. I like finding them in the wild better, this is just a hobby on the side.
