Shrooms in grass
    #1468253 - 04/17/03 08:04 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Hey... I did look at the shroomery's page on mushrooms in the wild. Its says in New York Psilocybe Semilanceata can be found in 'grassy areas'. Anyone have any experience finding this species? I have a lot of grass and never encountered any mushrooms. Thanks for the help.

Grassy areas means pasture lands in fields in the fall.

They fruit from late august after the rains until the freeze, mostly in Northern New York though. Common also in New Brunswick and nova Scotia, Canada.

mj

Not right now. They like tall rank grass and wild grasses associated with the manure of four -legged ruminants.

I guess my dad wasted his tax payer's money on my education, because I don't understand the term "tall rank grass." What does rank mean?

they grow on lawns in the UK sometimes (if you are lucky, I am ) which means that you can often set up an outdoor grow patch with very little effort, they also grow on roadside verges & even maintained lawns (mown) here & on Hamstead Heath in London,

They love damp weather (guess thats why they like Wales so much) & you will often find early morning searches (when misty) to be more fruitful!

Like mj said they are more prevalent during autumn, late august up till it gets really cold
