It is not too cold. The season is not ending. Certain patches might be starting to slow down though. I think its more that a patch has only enough nutrients to have a certain amount flushes per season. Once it has had a few flushes it starts running out of nutrients. This is only my guess though.

Hey guys. Was walking home and found a patch of some pretty dried up looking Subs, either that or dead ones.

I picked a few that weren't in such bad shape though. They look pretty dried out and the gills look very shrivelled up. Are these ones still good to eat? They don't look very matured at all, but would they still be as potent as ones that aren't like this?

gills

thanks

Weird Fishes said: Hey guys, I'm just wondering what actually causes Psilocybe Subaeruginosa to die. A lot of people are saying the season is nearing its end, which I can see I suppose as in my usual spots I'm not finding much and if I am they are usually black/dying.
Is it the weather getting a lot colder recently? Does the weather need to be a little warmer for them to grow? Because I've been finding hundreds of dead Subs.
If it is the coldfront, if the weather starts getting a few degrees warmer will they start growing back and staying healthy?
It's too dry at the moment, that's why you're finding dried out ones. This isn't just for Psilocybes either, all mushrooms are struggling with the conditions at present. We need some rain but by the looks of things we're in for some mild weather and little rain according the the long range forecast.
The season can go into September, again this is dependent on rainfall and temperature. There's still some around but not as many as people would like.
@Highroad001: If they haven't rotted or aren't bug infested then they're ok. Check that patch again after some decent rain.

Just had a shower. putting on a nylon coat. some fingerless gloves and of coarse my trustworthy gunboots.

Nice little 11 mushroom cluster.
Good luck bitches
