Here's a few tunes we recorded in a studio with a good friend of mine...

This Uprising, written by my bass player:

Barbarian Bounce, written by yours truly:

Always sounds good. Are you involved with the producing/recording process? Or do you just play?

Thanks.  I'm involved in it to the extent that any musician with studio time would be, I suppose.  I do all of the practice recording and mixing and I'm always looking for more mics, inputs and engineering techniques.

I just got this

And a couple more mics.  I'm going to put 2 on the drums, one for the bass and one for the piano as opposed to just stereo micing the whole session and see how that goes.  The only problem is that it all has to be pre-mixed mostly.

Yeah its a pain in the ass. I had a similar setup years ago. All mics/inputs were going into a mixer, then into the computer via usb. The downside, was it was just stereo input to the computer. You recorded all at once, then youd have to listen to the recording. If something was out of line, you had to adjust it on the mixer, then re-record. Another downside was you couldnt mix/EQ individual instruments in the recording software...because it was everything at once coming from the mixer in 1 stereo track. Left and right. It suuuucked.

Do you know what software is being used? Are your hands in any of that?

My sound engineer friend uses pro tools, which I don't know how to use.  I use Ableton Live.

I'm putting 4 mics into a stereo channel soundcard, so (maybe you can help me here) I could potentially have two tracks to work with if I pan 2 mics to the right and 2 to the left on the mixing board, right?

Nice man. From my experience, if youre stereo in, youll only have 2 active tracks. It doesnt matter if you pan on each track, your input will only have one left and one right
