I believe it is inferior to 1080p. My cap is not flexible at the moment, have way too many bills and festival shit to cover. I plan on upgrading some componets(add ram and maybe go dual card) in about 6 months.

I am looking for a amd based barebones starter kit that I would like to build up to a decent gaming rig. My budget is 1200-1000 dollars and the last computer I built was 8 years ago. So, I really do not know shit about all the new hardware. Any advice and reccoimendations on the barebones setup with additional hardware would be appreciated. 5 shrooms to all who help.

This is about the best build I could come up with for the top end of your budget using some quality components. In the future, you'd want to switch from stock to aftermarket cooler (honestly i'd exceed your top end and just do it off the bat) and then of course an SSD and additional HDD storage down the road. Good luck with your build, whatever you choose, and let us know how it all turns out
Edit: It just occurred to me you may not already have all the shit I have taken for granted (a monitor, gaming keyboard/mouse, burner, media card reader, etc)... were you needing all this factored into the price?

Yes, I need a monitor, keyboard, optical drive, and I just bought a razor mouse. Thank you for you're help, it is greatly appreciated.

I'd probably go with something like a Antec 900 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168111290213 Or even an Antec 300 if you want to go cheaper - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 Or CoolerMaster HAF 922 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197
I've owned both an Antec 900 and a Coolermaster HAF 922, and definitely recommend the HAF 922, because it's a much, much more spacious case (probably as big as it gets to still qualify as a midtower) - it also has sidways hard drive cage which helps tremendously for large graphics cards, and has a great design for cable management, which the 900 totally lacks. The perk of the 900 is that it's a much sturdier case (the HAF has a plasticy junk feel in comparison).. You can tell from unboxing the Antec that you're getting something of quality, but without some serious modding to the 900 for cable management, it's a mess, and (i believe at the time I had a gtx 260) a larger graphics card is a very tight squeeze, pretty much everything about it feels too tight and increasingly becomes more of a pain when adding new components... The HAF holds everything beautifully with lots of breathing room, but feels pretty cheap (but that's to be expected with Coolermaster IMO).

Thanks man, just grabbed the monitor, wish I would have seen the hard drive. The one I bought was a seagate 1tb for 100 bucks! Could have had double the space for less money.

$100 is a terrible price to pay for 1TB HDD these days, though the one he linked you is only a 5400rpm drive, which are great for backups, but hopefully you've gotten a 7200rpm for your OS at the least.

Yea, you can get WD Caviar 1 TB drives with 64 Mb cache for less than $100. Put a magnet to it and return it. There are some things that retail chains have for the same, or lower, than Newegg. Some things for some reason just never get sold cheaper at retail stores like HDDs, flash drives, and other components. The benefit of Newegg (and other computer stores/sites) is that you can just get OEM stuff and not pay for the fancy packaging.
Glad I could help with the monitor. That's an amazing price and the reviews seem to be really good as well. Save up a little extra $$ and get a video card that will perform at 1920 x 1080! You'll never want anything less!

agreed, i've been using their cards exclusively since maybe 2007 when i picked up a couple 8800gt cards. they came in a very unassuming packaging that stated the facts, their support seemed comprised of English speaking system building enthusiasts with above average intelligence, and they have really tight knit community forums. i believe my brother is still using those cards as a hand me down to this day.

5HTSynaptrip said: Looking at the description of some of those barebone packages seem alluring at first glance, but it's nice to have the complete details. For instance the system that has the Sabertooth x58 with the i7-960... it also has a HAF tower so there are some great components there except why add water cooling to a 750 watt PSU that they don't give specifics about? If you want to run a Bloomfield cpu and Crossfire/SLI then you'll need more than 750 watts if it isn't 80+ Silver certified (most likely). I know you want AMD, but that package caught my eye so I'm just using it as an example. It's stated the system has water for the power hungry i7 it has, but hitting 4 GHz on that isn't going to help you much if you simply buy a good video card.
In the end you're paying someone since they put it together, and it really doesn't take a lot of time to do what they've done (I think it's the most fun part of the build anyway!). Signup for the Newegg email(s) and you'll get them all the time, and they have great deals. I bought the base components for my desktop this way like my PSU, DVD-RW, SSD, etc. On an 850 watt 80+ Gold PSU that's modular I saved like $70. Building it from scratch will give you more bang for your buck and you'll be able to nicely do your wiring after putting everything in your tower.
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Motherboard Sapphire Flex Radeon HD 6950 CoolerMaster 800 watt 80+ Gold Modular PSU $830
That's top of the line pretty much so there is a lot of room for lowering PSU power if you want to do Crossfire or something like that. Not getting that motherboard could save you $100. I arbitrarily picked it since I read a review for it the other day. Obviously getting core components that are the newest will allow for a good amount of upgrading in the future. The only other thing you'll probably purchase that will be over $100 will your HDD depending on if you want RAID 0 (SSDs are a lot) and your tower. I'm assuming you maybe have the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
wow, i7960, that's a great cpu. but yes, you are still right, never buy a single component you aren't sure about, if you decide once you try and install it, that it's not what you need/want/can use, then you ended up paying a bit for something you will never use.

how strong of a magnet do you need? why return something as good as a terabyte anyway? why ruin it to get your money back?

He paid too much for it, but it was opened I think... idk.
All of my nVidia cards have been EVGA. My Radeon cards are always Sapphire now. By chance they were the only brand in stock, other than shit like powercolor, but I'm really happy with how their cards run. These 6970's are actually the first cards I've had in a while that I've not had any problems with.
ASUS is weird because they can be hit or miss. My luck with them is pretty good, and I've only bought ASUS motherboards, except for a Gigabyte motherboard GAEP35CUD3 or something like that. I've had it in my old PC with a CoolerMaster Wavemaster case(best case ever in 2003/2004) and believe it or not my 600 watt Enermax PSU from 2004 still works! In fact my 2 WD Raptors that have 32 gigs still work fine as well.
