Does anyone know if it is better to leave the huge water leaves on or cut them off?

Are you referring to Hydrophyllum virginianum ? And if not, then what do you mean by water leaves? Cotyledons?

The big leafs that are right under each branch. The leafs that are not part of a branch. It is one leaf that comes straight off the main stem. They are usually the biggest leaf on the plant.

I was just curious as I heard that without the leafs more energy goes into the buds, never tried it though

it is recommended by most people not to remove leaves unless required by your grow method. for instance, scrog should have all leaves removed below the screen.

THE LEAVES THAT YOU ARE REFERING TO ARE FAN LEAVES
and NO it is not a good idea to cut them off . the fan leaves take the sun light and turn it into sugers wich the plants feed off of , it is calld photosynthis . when you have lots of buds it might help to remove some fan leaves so that the buds can get some light but do not remove to many or your plant will sufer . hope this helps you for more info go to www.overgrow.com and look for me ther I am growlage .

errr actually i think what you are referring to are dormant shoots. They would grow out into branches of the plant but since cannabis has strong apical dominance they don't grow out, top the plant and you'll see them grow out into branches.
