    #1466928 - 04/17/03 10:39 AM (20 years, 11 months ago)

Hey all. I have this friend that has grown PF style 2 or 3 times. And has worked well for him. And I know he has read through all the FAQs, and such here at the Shroomery. But he is still looking for more information. He really wants to grow on bulk substrate but is nervious about it. He is looking for some easy ways, and maybe step by step instructions. I know he would really appreciate your help. Thanks alot peeps. And I'll have him post some pics when he gets the info he needs to start.

You can crumble the cakes in compost. It is best to use a 50/50 ratio. When the mycelium starts to grow out you case the top with a 1/4 inch layer. You can use vermeculite or other casing materials found in the shroomery files and FAQ's. There is plenty of info there. Look in the section labeled mushroom info.

Check out ShroomGod's tech. on bulk cultivation using wheat straw; Also 6T's method of colinizing WBS: easy directions, good outcome. Check the shroomery mushroom information files under advanced techs=> bulk cultivation (pretty sure it's there, if not do a search, you'll find it.)

key things to know about bulk that u dont wanna screw up-

water content
watering cycles

and as always....
sterility (environment, materials, you, and the substrate)

Afoaf finds qt jars of wbs w/ tyvek filters to work well. Recommend using bird basics which u can find at your local pets mart. 40lb. bag for around $8. Soak for 24 hours. Rinse WELL.

Rinsing is important cuz if you dont rinse enough, you'll get water resting on the bottom of jars, then when u PC it the bottom wbs kernals will expode thus making them useless, and probably will eventually contam. Ive heard that wrapping the seed in a bandanna and smacking it with your hand helps speed rinsing.

Read a good bulk tek as you have been referred. Its up to you or your friend now. Good luck
