Agaricus subrufescens almond mushroom on sawdust/woodchips

Hello - I am researching varieties of mushrooms I can grow in a warm / hot climate. Our day temps are about 25-28 C in the monsoon seasoon and 27 - 35 in the dry season. I have read that the almond mushrooms does Ok at warmer temperatures. However making mushroom compost seems a bit complicated. However I have a really close free supply of hardwood (like teak) wood chips or sawdust. I read one article that the almond mushroom can grow on sawdust but others say it needs compost. does anyone have any experience growing it on only sawdust? Thank you

I dont know anything about A. Subrufescens but another warm weather mushroom you may consider would be pleurotus pulmonarious. I've heard of it fruiting in 100F temps and its a wood lover so the sawdust and wood chips you have access to would be perfect.
Also if you did grow out some sawdust blocks of p. pulmonarious you could then re-sterilize the spent sawdust/wood chips and inoculate with a. subrufescens and it would probably have a good chance of growing on the 2nd hand substrate.

You would either need to supplement the sawdust with bran or use a lot of grain spawn, like 20 - 25%.
Spent pleurotus substrate needs some bran and gypsum added for a good yield.

So I can't really comment on fruiting this species but it definitely grows pretty well on sawdust. I have one block fully colonized that was grown on a mix of expanded wood pellets, gypsum, and bran at a ratio of around 10:1:1. It colonized the sawdust pretty fast but I was thinking I would take the sawdust block and break it up and mix it with some compost I've made and put it in a tray kind of thing.
Honestly I have found this species much easier to deal with than I expected. I thought the fridge would kill it but I put a grain jar in the fridge and after spawning with it the growth seems fine.
I'm hoping compost made of coffee grounds works as well as poo based compost.

thank you for the replies. I am thinking it is worth ordering some spawn and trying. But I have also read that it is best to grow it with a casing material. I still haven't worked out what casing material I can find here locally - I dont think I can get vermiculite (is that the gravelly stuff hard to clean off on some button mushrooms in supermarkets?) or peat based things, can I use garden soil, or else something made from coconut husks that would be like coir?

Reviving this thread wouldve been more appropriate if OP was growing Truffles.. 😉
