current HDD set up is- main 300gig hdd
- second 80gig hdd
- third 20gig hdd
ok so at current, the only sata cable i have is being used to run the main 300gig hdd, and my other two 20+80 hdd's are connected via those old school long rectangle like cables (10 pin or something like that) and a normal battery power connection.
The problem is, the 300gig HDD doesnt fit the same cables i used to plug my 80+20gig hdd and if i plug in the SSD with the original sata cables then i wont be able to connect up my 300gig hdd. and it has all of my files on it at current, and i kind of need them, as well as the 300gig drive itself just to be an internal drive on the PC, the 80+20 i can discard.
my plan was to wait for my 2TB ext HDD to arrive, then copy all files from all 3 previous drives across, and then install windows on my new ssd and have all my files still accessible as a backup incase i need to access them etc.
another issue is, is it possible to plug more then one set of sata cables for HDDs/SSDs into the motherboard/computer?? or is there only enough slots for like 1??
because i guess i could jsut purchase some extra sata cables and just install it normally.
thanks for your help in advance!

Yikes... if you have IDE cables that are connecting HDD's to your motherboard your SSD is probably choked to fuck.

Hmmm, are you saying that if you have IDE drive(s) connected to your mobo in addition to SATA drives the performance of your SATA drives will be diminished?

i think he means if im connecting an ssd to my mobo via IDE cables.
eitherway problem is almost completely solved now, i have sata ssd-->mobo chords and sata---> ide adapter power chords.

Cool, yeah, makes more sense.
Have you seen the PC build with 24 SSD drives RAIDed together?:

LOL @ Looking at defrag times for an SSD. To their credit though, it was made in 2009 and quite a bit has changed since then... like never defrag'ing an SSD or using that as a benchmark (even a secure ATA Erase which takes 3+ hours on a 1 TB 7200RPM HDD takes 1-2 seconds at most with an SSD). Even with SATA III, newer SSD's will be choked in bandwidth, but if HSDL (OCZ Ibis) takes off then it'll be pretty amazing! 20 Gbps Do other companies make anything similar to the Ibis?
Too bad there is no TRIM passthrough in a RAID.

Only a matter of time... problem with RAID, in general, is that it has always been very vendor dependent. I hope that SSD will end up forcing an implementation standard. Probably not, but I can always dream...
