its up to you do what you want to do we are trying to help you can steam sterilize jars for the pf tek but grains require higher temps and a good soak so all the nasties will germinate and then the pc will kill them but you can lead a cow to water but you can't make it drink

Re: Grain without pressure cooker Tec. [Re: simplemachine] #4207019 - 05/22/05 05:04 PM (6 years, 1 month ago) Reply Quote
it's really very simple. soak the grain 24 so endo-spores germinate. rinse well. then use a Pyrex bowl with a lid to nuke it 5 min. give a stir, and nuke it another 5. rinse again, and nuke again if you like. then drain to field capacity, and load grain into jars. put jars in a steamer and cook for 90 min.
i still use this method for doing large amounts of grain cuz my dinkie little pc won't hold qt. jars.
if hes telling the truth who knows but ill be truthful if i fuck up or not haha

i got a question , i no grains are the best for your bulk spawn, but why cant you use brf and verm in a 1 quart jar let it colonize and then use that as your spawn to add to ur bulk sub.. i think its becasue the brf /verm would prolly be pretty dry at that point thats why you use perilite with the pf tek mostly but if you used the right casing layer i think things could go right.. tell me what u think it was a though

You could use brf+verm jars. But it takes a lot more jars and it colonizes slower in the jar. Also breaking up that many cakes would not only be very tedious and time consuming but would cause an awful lot of bruising and recovery time. Its definitely feasible and has been done. Most Teks are made to be simple. And people love simple. Grains are just easier

To keep light from getting to the sides of the bulk substrate and causing side pinning. It also pulls away from the sides of the tub so that when water runs down the sides of the tub due to humidity and misting, it won't pool on the top of the substrate. when the substrate consolidates and shrinks it draws the bag away from the wall with it.

side pinning is the SHIT
i dont see why people think its a problem. ill never put another trash bag in my tub ever again. bad idea.
it made water build up underneath the bag. thats prime spot for bacteria or mold to start growing. if you dont use a bag and just tape the sides, the substrate soaks up any and all water thats in the bottom.

hmm alright screw the bag , but what do you mean if i dont use the bag tape the sides? i also heard if and when you case your sub you make the perimiter a bit thicker then the the rest of the casing and that prevents side pinning but.. if side pinning is the shit ha screw it
