sterilizing straw
    #1464906 - 04/16/03 08:42 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

i plan on using the straw-ball bulk tek. the instructions say to sterilize the straw, but then in the comments somebody said "make sure you don't sterilize the straw" because it increases risk of bacterial contamination.

.......??

yes, but more like 150-170 degrees. you don't want it going above 170.

your oven can work, but often, ovens are not calibrated completely accurately at the factory. you need a thermometer to make sure your temperature is right around 160 degrees.

or you could just use a pot on the stove.

either way, you're gonna have to buy a candy thermometer, and do a search to learn a little more about this.
