Tyvek Envelopes
    #14644236 - 06/20/11 05:00 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

So I went to the USPS and asked for some priority mail envelopes which I assumed were made of tyvek and they gave me a bunch of cardboard ones. :ffffuuu:

Too suspicious to ask specifically for tyvek envelopes, or should I go buy some at a store and if so what type of store.

Reason for deletion: It's bad enough one person posting that link, but let's not keep quoting it over and over. Besides, the PO tyvek is the worst choice.  It's too thin and the pore size can open considerably during pressure cooking.  Use kite or coverall tyvek for best results as jar filters. No more posting PO links.  That's been a long-standing rule around here.

Ralphsters, a friend had extra jars, and Whole foods.

Yeah probably, thanks for the reassurance.

I went to my local post office to get some and I looked around for a few minutes, only saw the cardboard ones and then on my way out the door I spotted them in a totally different rack. Try a different post office. You'll find em'. I took a nice inch tall knot so I'm set for a while.

Tyvek isn't a very good filter to start with, and those envelopes are low grade. Not worth stealing, get polyfil for five bucks.

Great for mailing things though. Superior for that.

That's what I use. Polyfil for filters, and some jars get a port made from RTV.
Mostly I do g2g for making spawn, lots of my lids just have a polyfil puff.

I don't use the tyvek either. Just grabbed them as a matter of convenience. Had to go to the post office anyways and I'm always reading about tyek uses here in the forum so I figured I'd grab some in case I ever have a need for it. These are actually my new jars I just made. Synthetic filter disc and injection port.

I think those priority rate envelopes are awesome. I tried making grain jars with just polyfill and had a 95% contam rate. Then I tried using both tyvek and polyfill and got a 99% success rate.

tyvek plus polyfill

Doc, dont go spreading bad info...
IMHO PO Tyvek > Polyfill for jars...

I got tons of grows with PO Tyvek under my belt, with very high success rates...
They look good in my rows...
No green there... :super:

Yes SFD might work "better", but PO Tyvek works just fine!
