So, I have to ask. Who is using a pressure cooker that hasn't got that fanshy smanshy pressure gauge on top, just an ole fashion weight with 5, 10, and 15 carved into it? Mines a Mirro-Matic that has to be at least 20+ years old, but hey...Its bigger then a god damn turkey fryer and can hold 20+ quart jars so hells ya for old skool! I am waiting for the day tho, that it blows and takes me and half the neighborhood with it hahaha! So whats your guys opinion on PC's for mushroom cultivation? For people that have used both gauged, and wobble tops what do you prefer? Is it time that I upgrade?

I have 2 small ones, 4L and 6L. neither of them have a pressure gauge, just a weight like you described. I've never looked close enough to see what pressure its at, i just know it does the job well. I've never seen one with a pressure gauge, but then again here in england pressure cookers aren't all that common, 6L is the biggest i could find. Only problem is i cant fit many jars in, and i have to run it a few times to sterilize enough substrate jars for a grow. Its worth it in the end.

Yeah, I'm just wondering if pressure cookers are one of those things they say "don't build um like they used to"...Or if its something that becomes less safe and almost dangerous to use when they get 10-20 years old.

20+ quarts?? thats crazy lol maybe your thinking of pints? well you did state its HUGE...
but to answer your question on the wobble weight, there are still alot of those selling, except they added the gage so you can view the pressure rising and where its at.
just make sure it Seals, no Cracks (for sure!) and the top stays, last thing you want is the handles (or however it locks) to be weak and brake. man, i wouldnt mind having a huge PC tho. that one sounds sick.

You should try it out and see what happens, but if you're that worried then you could always shell out the cash for an All American PC...they're pricey but they are the best ones on the market and will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

I have an All American 921 that I was lucky enough to get for £200 on Ebay (im in the UK) definatly worth it imo!
However regarding the gauge, its not really necesary in the slightest. It gives you an indication that pressure has dropped to 0 PSI so its safe to remove the lid, but as most people leave them to cool dowcool for several hours, if you let it cool sufficently you know its reached 0 psi.
Plus when my weights jiggling, the gauge displays 14 PSI so its slightly inaccurate anyway.

This is my el-cheapo no guage its small as but i have found smaller plastic containers i can get 4 in at a time, a big 280mls each whooo! When i first got it (im a noob got my first pins 2day:) i was over doing everything from melting plastic to popping jar lids i have it sussed now though! I have rust from using jar lids on the bottom, anyone know how to fix the rust?? i no longer use jar lids but its a mean rust stain. I scored some stainless coil type pot coasters for the bottom and they work a treat-no rust.
