Would you sacrifice Ghandi's life to save Hitler and Osama?

no, because that could have cost more lives than it saved. but then again, who are we to judge? would killing hitler before wwii be a good thing, or was it good that wwii came as early as it did, so we could learn something from it? what if wwii broke out today instead? many more people could have been killed today than sixty years ago.
anyway, i'm not really saying anything one way or the other, i just want your thoughts on this....
(so i can decide what to do with my serial killer-neighbour  )

You answered your own question. Because no matter what the circumstance "worth it" is a relative term. No one has the right to decide if somneones life is worth more than another be it for better or worse, no matter how much they "think" it will be for the better.

Bullshit. I'd save a brain surgeon before a bum. A daughter before a mother. A son before a father.

Life is a whole shitload of choices. Some just aren't easy.

But while these descisions may sometimes be carried out you still dont have the right to decide life and death on anything. And you can justify the act by saying "it was for the common good" etc..

Sorry but when you sacrifice one life to save two, you have made that decision. Or are you suggesting you would just sit back and let all three die?

No, i would probably act on what i though was "right". That doesn't give me the right to choose one life over another, and certainly doesn't justify what i've done, if it turns out i didn't know the whole story, or things aren't what they seem. On the other hand it may well be for the "best", but no one can say for sure.

Depends on the situation, and you never know the answer until the situation arises.

Is getting two hamburgers better than getting one? Well if you are really hungry, then yes. If you aren't that hungry, just get one. But you aren't going to know how hungry you are until you are at McDonalds ordering the food.

Thanks, I go through this moral dilemma a couple times a week, so I know what I'm talking about.

Yeeha!!! No, but I go to the Stampede every year, if that counts. I make many moral decisions there too. Should I go on the rollercoaster once or twice? I want to go twice, but after the first ride sometimes I feel sick, so I end up going once.
