Geolite vs perlite
    #1463140 - 04/16/03 08:50 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I've seen geolite becoming more popular over time, and was just curious about it. Is it pretty much the equiv. of perlite? Is it cleaner, messier? I heard it was also reusable..?

Both are reuserbal i think(well i reuse both by soaking in diluted bleach then drying and rinseing with boiling water)Perlite is a bit better for humidity being as how it creates a larger surface area, but both will up humidity.Perlite is also maybe better to show any possible contams starting. But clay pebbles look better around your house plants after use.

Does Geolite work the same as perlite? Do you simply fill the bottom of the container with Geolite add enough water and let it sit and the humidity gets created?

Haven't really seen a con to using geolite, pros are as Anno said plus for some reason algae doesn't grow on it easy. Guess that is why some hydro users like it.

Perlite is messy. In some cases it reflects enough light to cause some shrooms to grow toward it. If h202 isn't used it can have algae grow on it easy. Pros are it's cheap enough that it wouldn't be worth it to try to clean it.

Good to see you....anno...

Check this out guys.... I used to work in the repair and restoration division of a concrete company....'so'....geolite was one of the agrigates that we used, I live between 2 of the plants that produce the stuff....each about 75 miles....
My experience with it is as stated above....it does work for adding humidity, but it isnt as efficient as perlite....for that reason alone a bubbler is needed...it complicates the ssetup a little but is much more rewarding in the end...because it lowers overall expenses and it's reuseable for eternity....or at least 500 years....
