I've been experimenting with FAE since I think that's the most important question we have about pans, especially in a monotub style setup.
I have the tubs stacked one on top of the other, and the with the tub on top, the polyfill is loose enough so that all the condensation in the tub evaporates within a day with no misting. I mist this top tub 2 times per day.
On the bottom tub, the FAE is lower. It's what I'd call your "normal" monotub setup, where the condensation on the sides of the tub does not evaporate within a day when unmisted.
I really want to find out how the fruits look with this setup, so as to narrow down the FAE issue with pans in monotubs to one being better than the other.
Blue Helix recently experimented with FAE and pans and came up with some interesting results. You can see them here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14512104 I'm thinking that I might have similar results, but you never know.
In the end, I'd like to tie all of this together and be able to recommend a specific tub and fruiting style for this species, based on my experience.
I would like to see more people working with pans, and especially since monotubs are so easy, maybe people won't be put off by the level of work and detail they've been accustomed to hearing about them.
It should only be a few days to a week before pins show up. I'll update the thread then, or before, if the casing gets more eaten up by the mycelium and I have to patch it, which I'd rather not do.

I posted another thread on patching the grown through spots on tub #2 (bottom, less FAE tub). You can see from the pics below that it's really coming through the casing layer. In that thread, some very knowledgeable members said that it's doing fine, and that I shouldn't patch (or mist the casing, unless it's bone dry).
Here's that thread: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14597679

I wouldn't patch either, I'm pretty convinced the function of the white fuzzy growth is gas exchange. Pans demand good air exchange, as for misting I'm not convinced its necessary but, keep the substrate hydrated. #1 cause of pin aborting and stalling is dehydration of the substrate in my experience.
It all looks very good.

Outstanding!
I wonder what it is that causes early pinning...anything besides genetics?
Well, you have prints. This is great!
Take care,

could it be due to it just fruiting in a monotub?
