Ahh god not the cube-cyan hybrid question. I started a thread on it a while ago, and roger rabbit, if that is his real name, shut it down. He said that he wants to keep that project silent. Check it out:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14375773#14375773

What RR said, if it was his work he was doing he has a right to be silent about it until/if it pans out (pun, get it, "pans" out?  oh, forget it. :mjdance: )

So this is what happened to the strain thread...

Characteristics and history of... mostly... Anything, at this point... I read BIO brought it back state-side; and that it is not very domesticated yet...

Probably not the best for a noob to start out with, like I am, lol.

Come on guys... You're insulting yourselves with those silly "answers", lol.  I know "a cube is a cube"... Niche adaptation DOES occur; anyone that has done isolation-growths of just about any living thing knows that... I'm curious of it's niche adaptations and people's first-hand experiences...

Thanks

Every clone or iso of it has the potential to be/do anything really. When I first started I wanted to grow it. I ended up with some 40 or 50 odd cube races. I have only grown about ten so far.

If you want to grow it.... grow it.

Let us know how it goes.

sorry, but to me this thread is just the little brother of the psychedelic experience forum;

something like an unwanted pregnancy.

a thread that was birthed because people dont understand what strains are.

a thread which intention it is to collect all the damn annoying noobs questions about commercial names in one place,

so that the mushroom cultivation forum does not get flooded with all this ignorance.

something like an island only retards live on.

Well that's a arrogant statement, but I appreciate the opinion. From the looks of it there are definitely some noobish questions, but you'll find those everywhere you go; it's all just part of the learning experience. There are however very relevant questions wanting to know more of the background information of the strain, where it's from, and what it's history is. I don't find questions like that noobish; from a cultivators point of view I like to know what it is that I am growing and what it's historical information is. Just my point of view.

No one asked me for my opinion, but I have never been one to hold back. As a noob myself, I can honestly say unless the information is outlined in an easy to read, easy to find manner, then how do you expect us noobs to find out this information. Of course we are going to come into here and ask the same bloody stupid questions over and over again, because everyone will be interested in finding out that info as they get going. Problem is, is that Shroomery is a labyrinth of information, with probably fifty posts all saying a slightly different variant of the next, or even contradictory information. Yes, it is getting better, even since I came here, but still very difficult. You say "use the search function" okay, but since I don't overly know what I am talking about I got 50,000 posts in the results, most of which are 5 years old, outdated, or irrelevant. So instead of spending your time complaining about stupid questions, spend it cleaning the forums up or adding to the information sections and FAQs. Please don't get me wrong, I understand the frustrations, I do, and I love the Shroomery and the idea behind it, but attitudes like this push people away instead of bringing them in. Also, while I agree a cube is a cube, having the different strains/races/whatever makes it exciting and fun to try something different for noobs and helps bring people in. Also one could argue a Lager is a Lager and an Ale is an Ale, while that's a little like comparing Apples to Oranges, you cannot disagree that B+ tends to do this, while Cambo tends to do that. Cheers.

Higgledy-piggledy; seriously?...  WTF is with all the asshat responses?... I HAVE searched via the world wide web, smartass...  Have you?  If you go through the results you find mostly what I have already posted above = not much...  Hence the fuckin' question...

Good God, LOLz I mean, is this the image we wish to portray to people new to Mycology???

Seeing as this thread is for strain discussion, I might as well throw this out there--Z-Strain colonizes like a beast. It has been 16 days since I inoculated a few jars... 2 of them are at 100 percent, the rest right on the cusp of being ready.

Aside from being exceptionally fast, how are they other wise? I have no idea what to expect from them.

i was in one of my moods while typing this above.

the art of using the search engine...

there are a few features you can narrow your search with; theres also a chapter where there is explained how to use it efficiently.

i can not demand the people of asking no questions, but how did i get the info?

didnt post a single thread.

all my info mainly came from this site, comparing the info i found via search with the current discussions on the board,

hence filtering the outlined info.

of course its a little work to do, and thats the point:

people are too lazy to do that. thats what goes against the grain for me.

I also admit to letting out a negative rant. You have a lot of patience, which most of us noobs haven't learnt yet. Sadly the internet has trained us to expect instant gratification which is not a good thing when it comes to this hobby  *steps off soap box and heads back to the short bus*

The more and more I learn, the more I understand two very important things:

1. A cube is a cube; until you isolate a genetic pairing with specific traits via agar (as an example). This is a short term "loss" but a huge gain in the long term (as I'm reading and understanding)

2.  If you will not be doing any genetic isolation, then it would be highly recommended sticking with races/"strains" that already have been. Meaning; highly domesticated ones. Like B+ for an example.

I wish I understood this a couple months ago, before I had purchased my ms syringes... I ordered several Tasmanian. Problem is, they are still very "wild". Meaning; they haven't been cultivated in labs long enough to have had much genetic selection/isolation done on them as of yet...  Sooo, my hand seems to have been forced, by way of my former ignorance, into making the leap into agar work...

Hope this helps

wherefrom do you know that?

i think you can assume that every cube variety that your spore print or the spores in your syringe come from are from specimen, which have been grown under artificial conditions for quite some time.

to verify that, you could send the vendor you got your syringe from a request, and ask them about things like how domesticated they are and so on.

and i bet they can also give you (as a customer) good information of where it came from, who brought it to the states, ...
