Growing at the EZ storage

so a friend of mine drives by this huge EZ storage facility frequently and can't help but think about how easy it would be to set up a grow room in one. A problem is that there isn't any electricity available, but there is ambient light, and one can design an air exchange and humidity system with very very little electricity, that wouldn't require you to visit it every day.

Has anyone thought of doing this before? It's an interesting idea!

I remember people talking about it way back when on the alt.drugs.mushrooms newsgroup. Since google has the archive, you might be able to find info in there.

If you know someone that is thinking about this you might want to have them talk to a lawyer to find out if there are any real advantages to this as opposed to other options. I assume that keeping it out of one's property would be a reason for doing this.

A few points:
  • don't do it near where you live or work, that just makes it more likely that someone will identify you.
  • fake identification, that will pass any questions they have.
  • work in the dark, making sure that no one sees what you are doing and no one sees your face (including security cameras)
  • leave no identifable trace, wear gloves, basic clothing, generic shoes, etc.
  • constant survailance, make sure no one suspects anything
  • be willing to ditch everything you have worked on in a heartbeat
  • find climate controlled storage, costs more, but provides heat/air cond., electricity, maybe water.

    Very risky.

    Make sure you move furniture and/or other objects into the storage room. if you rent a storage spot and do not move anything big in it becomes suspicious.

    Do not get one that faces the street. You want one that you will have to walk down a hallway to get to. This lessens that chance that someone can see inside.

    You can't visit the location that often. This looks suspicious.

    I would think its a little too risky to do. Also, to make yourself look like a regular renter, there are too many things that you have to do or you cant do to make it very effective.

    Warm weather is here / coming. You'd be better off starting an outdoor patch in some random woods or something. Search around there's some good info on outdoor cultivation.

    I agree that it sounds like a bad idea. Those places are usually closely watched. You almost always have to punch in a pin code to get through one gate or another, and it would look pretty sketchy for someone to be visiting a storage place every few days. Too many factors that are not in your control. If you really want to try something like this, I would suggest you, or a someone you know and trust, get a job at one of these places to see how they handle things. Not understanding exactly what their checks and balances are could cost you a trip to jail.

    This may be a plausible solution for a large scale sclerotia grow. Since they can grow in pretty cool temperatures, complete darkness, require no air exchnage, and take 3+ months, you would be golden.

    Cardboard boxes or rubbermaid containers could be filled with spawnbags of rye grass seed. Even if someone were to suspect something, there would be no obvious signs of a mushroom grow-op.
