Yucca help
    #14614868 - 06/14/11 10:33 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hey guys, sorry this isn't really an entheogenic plant but I figured there would be someone on here who could give some advice.

We've had these 5 Yucca plants since we moved in a few years ago. They grew pretty quickly and provided some privacy from the neighbours. About a year ago the 2 in the middle started to die on the top with their spines turning yellow, so we decided to cut them back in the hope that they would shoot and regrow.

They came back pretty quickly with the one on the right growing with no problems. The one on the left however is struggling somewhat and is beginning to yellow again.

Could this be too much water? Queensland has received excessive amounts of rain in the last few years.

Could it be competition for nutrients? They are planted rather close together

I suspected it may be nitrogen deficiency? not sure about that though.

Here are some pictures.

to be honest man they look fine, just looks like some dying leaves, by the looks o it though you should treat it like your regular tubular cacti/Succulent, even though it probably isnt one.

If that was in one of my gardens I would start by checking the roots. There's a good chance they've rotted and it could be the reason considering all the rain you guys have had. They don't tolerate having wet feet.

If the roots are toasted you can cut the stem above graund and pot it up to strike new roots. Just be sure that any rot hasn't travelled up the stem, if it has cut it out.

Yeah that was suspected. The ground where we live is basically 100% clay soo not great drainage. Considering the replant method.

Thanks for the help Karode

Hopefully they will get a little bigger because at the moment their spines are at perfect eye level and very sharp.

Almost all our plants are spikey.
