Designing a "lay down" computer interface system (PICS UP!)

This has been on my mind for quite some time now, seeing as I use the computer quite often to write and edit music for school, and considering I have 4 bulging disks in my neck. Its starting to get quite painful and uncomfortable and is at the point where I can't concentrate and lose the motivation to continue working. Not to mention creative ideas while writing and editing cannot freely flow, so, I'm going to give this a shot.
I currently use an Asus laptop, and Edirol UA-25 audio interface, and have both studio monitors and studio headphones as well. What I am going to do basically is mount a 22 inch LCD monitor on the underbelly of my desk that I use with mounting brackets on the corners, and have it connected to the laptop through HDMI. Then I bought a red backlit Saitek keyboard that I am going to mount at an angle upsidedown in front of me, at such a height so that my elbows can be on the ground and my fingers can reach the keys by simply stretching out. Instead of using the speakers I will use the headphones when I am on my back since the speakers are up above. Then, lastly, I will just put the mouse and mousepad down on the floor on my right by my thigh so that my arm is able to use it at my side on the ground.
I feel like this totally has the potential to increase productivity ten-fold for me. Anyone else try anything like this?
Will post pics within the week's end.

Couple of thoughts...
Arms are going to get tired fairly quickly. Putting pressure on the elbows, as you describe, will restrict blood flow to the hands. Also, moving between keyboard and mouse is going to get old very quickly. If you can type blind, with the keyboard down at your waist, it will probably work out better. I find it difficult to wear headphones while laying down. Good luck!

I have a simple but amazing set up for when I used to game like a crackhead... twin bed + nightstand. I'll post pics in a sec gotta edit out the rest of the room been using it for years, up to like 40 hours straight... I don't have any neck/back/wrist issues before hand so not sure if it'd be good for you. I can say it certainly won't cause any issues like this, total comfort.

only thing is you gotta know where the keys are on keyboard really well. They shift a lot since its on my lap and you can't look at them often. Looking at the pic it's hard to tell I guess but the screen doesn't feel off center or anything while looking at it, just the 2nd monitor is kinda shitty position (the far edge is in Peripheral vision only) but it's not a big issue for me. Also my bong broke and started leaking... thats the sad contraption you see to the side, new one INC!

I swear by this pointing device, the Logitech M570. It might be a lot better for your purposes than a normal mouse, because it's usable upside-down without having to move it around. You could just fasten it on a board next to your keyboard, then mount the whole thing at an angle that's comfortable to you.

True, good point! I've been testing it out with just the mouse and monitor hooked up, and it feels great! But I can tell my arms would not like to be locked in place. I don't think they would have any problem reaching up a bit when I need to type, so I'm ganna mount the keyboard up a bit. Otherwise, total relaxation for my back, at least my upper back and neck, but I need to do something about my lower back. I might need to put a mat or thin foam mattress on the carpet to give it some support.

Tis' a nice a setup you got there, but I'm pretty sure that would kill my back and neck especially since my head would have to be turned slightly.

Hmm I'm going to keep this in mind! But as of now its been working fine with the mouse at my side, and I just ordered a nice wireless one so I can easily switch between using the laptop upright, and the lay down interface on my back.
I'll probably post pics tonight when I'm able to mount the keyboard

looks like a covert beat off station. haha but yeah, your arms are going to be kileld after awhile. I think a better situation would be to have the keyboard on your lap, monitor on the top, or kinda like how htey have in the hospitals with the lcd on the wall and things on your side.

I wish it was ergonomic and did without the things on the corners.
