Panaeolus Subbalteatus pics
    #14474833 - 05/18/11 06:52 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Finally, the first fruiting of subbs has begun in my area of socal, Ill continue to post my finds on this thread, and encourage anyone and everyone to post their finds here as well. I hope I can get my hands on an actual camera by then (used my 1.3 meg pix cellphone camera today, only thing i had).

Anyone else finding some treasures?

Heres a terrible picture of today's finds

Roughly 80 specimens, found on 3 front lawns of a gated community. These houses were built only a few months ago, and houses are still in the process of being put up on this street. So, this sod was put in only a few months ago as well.
Wish I had a camera, i would be able to get some phenomenal habitat shots

They sure are popping up now! After finishing my Agriculture final at my local community college, I came upon a small 6x6ft plot of new sod. The subbs were fairly small, but I picked about 50 specimens from that small plot, which ain't bad :] I then checked another of my spots (checked it last week and didn't find 1 mushroom) which is a small soccer field at a park that's around 5 years old. Upon entering the park, I noticed lots of Agrocybe species fruiting, which has always been a good indicator for me that subbs are around somewhere.. And then it happened! BOOM! I was thrown into a hysteria after laying my eyes on the first subbalteatus patch. They were only growing on one side of the field, which I noticed was being fertilized last year with some kind of manure/hardwood shaving mix. Also, the field is tilted slightly downhill, so all the water drains to the side of the field where the subbs weren't growing.
Again, I hate myself for not having a camera available besides my shitty cellphone camera.. So I'm sorry folks but these will have to do for now :\

Oh! Also, I found a cluster of two subbs, or what I think are subbs, that appear to be a sterile collection. The cap, stem, and gill formation are all identical to the subbs they were surrounded by, yet the gills appeared to have not produced any black spores, or brown for that matter. What do you guys think?

Any black you see on the gills isn't from sporulation (hope that's a word) but from the gills casting shadows on each other.

They're booming in my neck of the woods as well. Just got home an hour ago with a 65 wet gram harvest. This is the first time I've found subbs, what's the dosage like on these bad boys? They're all lawn subbs.

Do you mean a full 8th at least because subbs are kinda weak or a full 8th of subbs is weak?

ok well imo i would dose out on 3-4 grams of them cuz the subb species is weak to moderate. idk depends if you want to get your face stolen also you could start with 2 and and see how that is and do the lemon tek. ( search for it)

Thanks everyone

Anglerfish, jodorowsky is the man

Gastro, I typically dose 6-8 grams dry(about level 3 on a 1-5 scale), and around 40-60 grams wet. In my experience, they loose quite a bit of potency during the drying process. But then again, this is hard to say since (in my experience) different collections widely range in potency. For example, Ive collected 40 specimens from one place. I take them home, notice some bluing on the mycelium that's still attached to the stem, weigh them, the collection weighs 40 grams, and I eat them all. I have a 5 hour long experience, very subtle visuals, and rate it a 3. Then I go back to that same spot a week later, pick 40 specimens, take them home, notice no bluing, weigh them, they weigh 40 grams, and I eat them all. I have 3 1/2 hour long experience, no visuals, and rate it a 1 1/2.

Hope that makes sense..

Well that would i most certainly blame on tolerance, one week in between isn't enough to get a full experience...

at any rate they are still week to moderate so it all depends on how hard you like to trip if you like to trip hard eat at least an 8th but i would eat 4 to 6

hahah you missed my point! That was just an example, I wait at least a month in between experiences. But yes, i would agree that 4-6g dried is a good starting point.
