Tassie I.D request (Panaeolus I think?)
    #14613304 - 06/14/11 05:07 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Do you guys reckon this is a Panaeolus species? Collected in northern Tasmania, growing in grass under eucalypts among scattered sticks and leaf litter. There is no obvious blue bruising. whole mushroom and gills are a rich chocolatey brown colour.

I should have said, there is a great deal of Pademelon dung around the area this specimen was collected. Although I didnt see it actually growing out of dung, there is every possibility that down below the grass it was in contact with dung...

Just going by pictures on the net, it could quite easily be Panaeolus papilionaceus OR acuminatus.

So Panaeolus papilionaceus is known to be active? I wonder if I should be able to see blueing?

Blueing is a sign of the active cheicals oxydising in psilocybin/psilocin (the magic chemical) containing fungi.

Soo, 80% of the time, if a mushroom blues, its likly to be active (magic)
