Hagen 200w Thermal heater - submersible?
    #1461274 - 04/15/03 05:31 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

The package of this aquarium heater says not to submerge past a certain point. The web page says its fully submersible. Anyone had experience with this model?

I was talking to a guy at the petstore a few days ago, he said they submerge non-fully submersible models all the time.

I hope this is one that can be submerged completely as i just paid $40 for it.

I say take it back, get yo money. Go to a fish stor or petco and get a tronic or abo jagar. My friend batman uses the abo jagar and it works very well in the double container tek. 200watt.

Are you willing to risk electrocution for $40? Buy another heater.

I dont know what pet store you went to but at petsmart the people are morons. Go to a fish store. The one i went to was called "Troopical fish bowl".

Well, i just got back from the pet store. I checked out the Tronic brand of "submersible" heaters. They too have a maximum water level line.

So,does yours? And you submerged it anyway?

Have a look and get back to me.

There doesn't appear to be ANY fully submersible heaters available.

No, I am not willing to risk electrocution. That is why I posted on here before (and i still haven't) using it submerged.

Well, its now completely submerged. WAY past the max water level.

No bubbles came out of the tube, so I say thats a good sign.

I figure that its completely submersible. Its just due to safety reasons that they claim not to exceed a certain level (to cover their asses).

I mean, when you consider that its in water, they'd better make damn sure no water can get in if it accidentally falls in the aquarium.

If water easily got inside the heater, I don't think they'd sell many because they'd have a whole whack of dead people and lawsuits on their hands.

I have been very confused by this fact too.
They say do not submerge past the water line, and they DRAW the water line on the heater...but it's still fully submersible.
In my experience only the really cheap ones arent submersible. I think there are some regulations about having to include a water line. That's the federal govt for you.

Wello, its now been 8 hours since i rigged up the incubator. The temp inside is still a measly 25C. Does it take a long time to get to temp? I have it set for 88F

Its safe as a motherfucker. Besides, I don't go putting my hands in the water when its plugged in.

I'm still not willing to risk electrocution. If i thought there was even a slim chance of it happening, I would not have put it in the water.

$40! ouch, that's teeth.

200watts is probably overkill. Afoaf has a used a 150 qt cooler as an incubator with (1) 25watt fully submersible heater. Ambient room temp was about 65deg.
