Yes, but there is less paper left after you burn the flag. If you roll it the normal way, the paper doubles/triples up depending on how fat you roll it. With the flag joint there is just a single layer of paper around the entire joint.
True, but I just don't see the point in backrolling...my normally rolled J's always burn smooth w/out running so I guess it's just personal preference

I don't/won't ever understand back-rolling their shit. My joints burn just fine, especially when I pack them down good. I once rolled a gram blunt that was smaller than a normal size Bic, burned forever
also, if you're gonna put honey on your joint, use this:

It's not about burning smoothly, it's about tasting better.

I see no difference other than the removal of the gum strip, as yes, the paper will stick to itself with the proper amount of spit on there. If that gets one more high , more power to them..
You don't remove the gum strip you burn off excess paper, so there's only one wrap of paper around the joint.
I have backrolled a handful of times. Definitely tastes better!
I just tried this method. I roll with organic raw papers. So i achieve single coverage as it is, come to find out. Finitely tastes better maybe, I can be a stickler for tradition. My joints alway burn slowly, smoothly, and taste great! It really boils down to papers use and herb quality..

I gotta try this the next time I roll a joint. Less paper taste = more weed taste.
It doesn't look too different from rolling a regular joint- which I'm pretty good at now that I smoke RYO cigs...

Like these? cuz that's what I use too

When you first backroll they will probably burn fast, still gotta get them tight .

Yup, and I can now see the advantage.Tho I will stick mostly with my old school tech. When ever presented with x-large papers hopefully I can remember to whip it up backroll style.
Old dogs learn new tricks, thanks. Brah..

I'm just worried that I'll try to burn off the paper like a cool guy and end up starting the joint.

who uses paper with gum strips anyway? I always use SD Modiano papers, even a full size paper burns away in a single wisp of barely detectable smoke. I rip across the top to get a ragged edge for sealing, and just choose how far down I rip based upon size of joint. Papers with gummed edge = yuk

uhh I bet you most people use paper with gum strips....
I roll my joints as cones so I sort of need all the paper. I'm gonna try this next time I roll a J though

yeah... since the papers that come with my can of tobacco have gum strips on them, i do! i've also never seen a paper that didn't have a gum strip on it... (i understand they probably exist)

lolz they definitely exist, that is all I have used for 15 years. You don't need gum to seal a J, though ripping a thin (or thick) strip across the top helps by creating a ragged edge that sticks even better.
The Modianos to which I refer can be hard to find depending on where you shop/live, but they are super thin and burn super clean. MOst papers are shit, especially "gas station" papers, though I used plenty in my youth. (Joker, JOB etc)
