What do dreams mean to you?

do they hold any significance in your every day life?
do you gain anything from them, or are they merely pleasant experiences?
do your dreams follow any sort of pattern?
do you tend to dream of a particular person/situation/event?
do you dream frequently, or only sometimes?

I believe dreams show alot about your personal life, I don't really think someone else can interpret them for you, it's insightful sometimes but for the most part it's probally vanity going on.
I believe 100% that God/Jesus came to me in a couple of my dreams, I posted them before just search "divine dream" if your interested in my most clear dream I ever had.
...one of my most recent divine dreams (it could be just my belief showing up in my dream) was Jesus pointing right at my brother and friends face saying "You are God!",,,he did that to them and there was some other spiritual/religious things going on that I can't remember fully.
-------------------- hello, your name is life on earth ------------------------------------
"I traveled a long way seeking God, but when I finally gave up and turned back, there He was, within me! O Lalli! Now why do you wander like a beggar? Make some effort, and He will grant you a vision of Himself in the form of bliss in your heart." -the saint of the Kashmir Shaivism tradition: Lalli.

i agree with your sentiment that someone else won't be able to interpret your dreams for you. from my experience, and from a dream/series of dreams last night that inspired this thread, i've found that my dreams are usually a mixture of symbolism from current aspects of my life mixed with fantasy.
i'll check out that divine dream

I used to think my dreams were trying to tell me something, and I suppose I could analyze them and come to some knowledge
But lately my dreams are just an extension of my waking life, just more activity on a subtler level. Sometimes I work through problems or resentments or conflict through my dreams.

Actually you just remember dreams infrequently.
I taught myself to remember dreams when working on lucid dreaming. Ever since I remember a fair amount. Often three or more per night.

Last night I had a dream where I could teleport, but there was some "guide" there showing me the way. I was presented with harmful situations and was teleporting out of them, and being congratulated for my powers.
It was interesting.
And a few nights before that, I was in an apartment with a bunch of dope fiends and crack heads and had this grim outlook that this was how I was going to end up.
Then I woke up.
Dreams do mean a lot to me, but I notice the more I smoke weed, the less I remember my dreams.

Its hard for me to say what dreams mean to me. I have dreams of things that are truly terrifying...in the since that I see myself doing pretty evil things in them....other times I see pretty vivid stuff of my past
I feel bad for my wife...every other night she yells, "Shut up!...your yelling about the Marines again" Poor woman
-------------------- “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

This reminded me of one night I picked up my friend's buddy from the airport because he just came home from basic training for the Marines, well he got plentiful wasted that night, and when we went back to my friend's house, he was staggering around, wasted, saying all choppy "You can't tell me what to do, number zero zero one zero zero. I"M A MARINE, zero zero one, no one can tell me what to do."
It was pretty ridiculous.
and that's my story.

lucid dreaming has always interested me, i'd like to work on that, too.
just got done watching a lecture on dreaming. there's a model of consciousness called the AIM model that describes why/how we dream.
Quote:
AIM model As the activation-synthesis hypothesis has evolved, it has metamorphosed into the three-dimensional framework known as the AIM model. The AIM model describes a method of mapping conscious states onto an underlying physiological state space. The AIM model relates not just to wake/sleep states of consciousness, but to all states of consciousness. By choosing activation, input source, and mode of neuromodulation as the three dimensions, the proposers believe to have selected “how much information is being processed by the brain (A), what information is being processed (I), and how it is being processed (M).[31] Hobson, Schott, and Stickgold propose three aspects of the AIM model: Conscious states are in large part determined by three interdependent processes, the level of brain activation (“A”), the origin of inputs (“I”) to the activated areas, and the relative levels of activation of aminergic (noradrenergic and serotonergic) and cholinergic neuromodulators (“M”).[31] The AIM Model proposes that all of the universes’ possible brain-mind states can be exemplified with a three-dimensional state space, with axes A, I, and M (activation, input, and mode), and that the state of the brain-mind at any given instant of time can be described as a point in this space. Because the AIM model represents brain-mind state as a sequence of points, thus Hobson adds that time is a fourth dimension of the model.[31] The AIM model proposes that all three parameters defining the state space are continuous variables, and any point in the state space can in theory be occupied.[31]
it basically says that we dream because we are in a high state of cortical activation paired with a low level of external stimulus, and we have trouble remembering the dreams because the dreams are taking place in short term memory but no further processing is going on that would encode it into long term memory.

I remember some dreams for long periods and if I start to remember one it will often trigger dozens going back dozens of years. This started happening all of a sudden during a very fertile dream period that lasted a couple of years. For me now they are like real events in my life etched in memory.

curious. often times i have a hard time deciphering if the event i'm remembering was a dream, or just an odd thought.

I dream frequently. Often I have sleep paralysis accompanied by vivid nightmares, and dreams-within-dreams.
I find them pretty interesting to think about.

To me I think its just like "soul play," a combination of the freedom of the soul and the power of the mind. But there have been many for me that I believe to have been messages from the subconscious, in the form of metaphors and symbolism. I also believe that dreaming serves some sort of psychological function with growth, processing, recovery, organization, or something of the like.

An example of one -- I woke up to hear my girlfriend being murdered in the other room, but I was paralyzed, so I couldn't get up to save her. I woke up again, relieved that it was just a dream, and the same thing happened. This repeated several times.
These dreams became much more frequent after I took acid for the first time, and the first few times I had them, there were often weird angles/perspectives and changing colors.
