What the thing called "I" is, is a (smallish) segment of that which actually exists. It isn't God, it isn't me, it isn't you. You, me, and God, are ideas.
Don't get me wrong, in many ways I'm sympathetic to the notion of God, but I don't believe it is rigorous enough to serve as an appropriate label for "our true selves," or however else you would like to say it. I do like to use God as a metaphor, though.
For example, I have described psychedelic experience as "probing the mind of God." I feel that psychedelics (can) cast the mind far away from "you," and set it tumbling or sailing through "the mind of God," IE the totality of all the possible ways that a mind could be, in principle, irrespective of ego or personality. During your trip, your mind takes some small path through this infinite space of possible mindstates.
But that's just poetics. It's not a rigorous definition of reality, and I don't believe there is any such "thing" as the mind of God.
Yup, I can relate to the idea. It is somewhat difficult to talk about God, cuz, nowadays, that idea can be interpreted in many many different ways.
Now, you are speaking about states of mind, and how it relates to the idea. IMO, even our minds, egos, and everything else is part of this grand idea, which some people call God. No need of him/her to have mind... its just is - infinite, or infinite idea.

I think we both mean very close to the same thing here. I like the way you think.
As I said, I don't really like naming that which actually exists, but what it is does seem to be a lot like "an infinite idea," which is basically how I understand Platonic Idealism. I've heard Terrence McKenna suggest that "the world is made of information," IE, the primary things which exists are patterns. So our minds "fall out of" these interactions of pattern, as does 3-D space, and everything else. Makes sense to me.
