Burma Soldier
    #14610550 - 06/14/11 06:00 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Just watched this movie documentary tonight. A heart-breaker about a young soldier forced to kill his countrymen in a violent and long-standing civil war (60+ years) and witness horrible human rights violations until he loses an arm and a leg (no jokes, please!) from a land mine.

Later he becomes a political dissident against one of the most oppressive regimes in the world and does 15 years of very hard time for speaking out. A tale of a hero who does not feel like a hero nor have a happy ending.

Interestingly enough, Burma is predominantly Buddhist country. While resource rich, it is one of the poorest countries and has just about the worst human rights record. Does this tell us anything about Buddhist philosophy? If not, why not?

Does the movie tell us anything? Of course not. The movie is not a person, it can't talk to us. Silly Orgone.

Did you not read my thread wherein I described myself as empathetic? (or is it plain old pathetic?)

If the main character was a woman her name would be Eileen; as it is we have to settle for Neil.
