Could you point me in the direction of some "good" house music?
I have listened to a decent amount, but not really known artists or producers I would call genius lol.

I thought house was just an umbrella term for all sorts of electronic music since the 80's?

Not really. Just as there are genres of trance for example, there are genres of house. Minimal House, Chill house, Tech house, Progressive House, etc All quite different. My is Minimal and Tech
All VERY different music. The only similarities is the marked beat (4/4) within the certain BPM range (124-130ish). Obviously there is alot of bleeding between genres and sub genres

Big difference :P different genres
hardcore:
techno:
But in the actual genre of house for example there are extremes on both ends (VERY minimal, VERY techy, but there are those that are closer to the middle). Its like those circles that overlap.

Personally I dig the minimal House sounds that veers towards dub; heavy bass, echoing chords and spacey ambiences. So here are some suggestions within those perimeters:
Basic Channel Beat Pharmacy CV313 Deadbeat Intrusion Marko Furstenberg Pacou Quantec

Ah
I'm attending a workshop for ableton with Tom Cosm in roughly a month...
Check him out he has more minimal/techy stuff.
In this second edition we will focus on 4/4 electronic beats in the style of Electro, Minimal Techno, Progressive Trance and Tech House. We have a very special guest from New Zealand called Tom Cosm!!
Tom is certified Ableton guru and will bring you a liveset of his fine tunes and also a workshop on Ableton Live. Those who know Tom Cosm will know he is one of the best ableton live performers on the planet! You can definately pick something up from this guy. His musical styles varies between Funky Progressive, Electro, Minimal Techno and a hint of Dubstep
Can't wait honestly.
