Thoughts on perlite humidification

Ok heres the deal, I a long time back grew in a cat pan with one of those zip up plastic blanket cases around it. I used perlite and a bubbler to keep up humidty, and it stayed pretty constant from 80% to 90%. Now, Ive recently set up shop again, same basic setup only now in an old aquarium (18x36x15 inches) and I can only keep 65%, though it doesn't waver at all except when I open the top. Now my question here is: has anyone noticed a lowering of efficiency with perlite as the volume goes up? My surface area for the perlite also went up, naturaly. Or do you think it possibly loses too much humidity w/ the air (not being sealed quite as well as the comforter bag).

i think it's not as air tight. a lot can just evaporate out the cracks.

I'd say air leakage... add more perlite.. like to the bottom and a couple of containers of wet perlite if you have room... if that doesnt work try to look for air leakage. a friend of mine had a large rubbermaid container that was used for storage before his growing experiments (it was probably warped). He added the recommended amount of perlite to the bottom and water wouldn't even stay on the sides.. he misted all the time... then he bought a new container (seals better) and added a much thicker bed of perlite to the bottom.. nice and humid I hope this helps. have fun.

keep in mind that your hygrometer may also be way off. if you can see condensation on the walls if your terrarium you're fine.
