Weight or Volume
    #14608570 - 06/13/11 08:17 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Which recipes do you use weight and which volume? Meaning in an LC would i use 4% by weight or 4% by volume? How about with substrate if adding 5% gypsum, is that by volume or by weight? I have used the search and really couldn't find something 15 pages in, so hopefully someone could help with that. Thanks in advance!

Gypsum by volume. LC is for suckers, don't bother.

Most of the measurements you read here will be referring to volume, uneless otherwise
stated. Weight measurements have to take moisture content into account, and that could
get a bit confusing.

If you're going to add gypsum by weight to a bulk substrate or casing layer, use 1% to 2%.

can you say more about this?  Would this depend on the species (eg., shiitake vs cyans vs cubes)?

Oh, and I assume that since you said gypsum by volume, would that imply LC should be calc'd by weight?
