Free Fun At Home * 1
    #14438893 - 05/12/11 06:55 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

The wife and I have decided to spend as little money as possible for the next 6 weeks and see how much money we can accumulate by doing so.

We decided to only spend money to pay our bills and to buy un-prepared foods and limit our beer and wine purchases.

With that, we have been thinking of ideas to have fun quality time at home with the kids. Aside from video games, movies and board games, we have decided to come up with other activities to enjoy our time together on the weekends.

Any suggestions?

One serious suggestion: sex.

Also, parks, libraries.
Check local and/or independent newspaper for free local events like craft shows and farmer's market's.
You have to have the discipline not to buy anything though.

Lots of free art and shows, play, etc around too if you look.

Disc golf is a pretty cheap(as long as you don't loose your discs)super fun past time, you could play bocce ball in the backyard or even some horse shoes. If your kids are old enough you could do a family cooking night and start teaching them simple recipes like fajitas.

If you have a backyard and are not afraid to put in a little good wet work, and also not afraid to make a few small investments.  Home gardening can do wonders for your wallet.

Not only do you end up with a very time consuming hobby (tilling soil, planting, weeding, watering, correctly fertilizing... etc etc etc) you also end up with a HUGE Savings on your family food bill.

Most people can garden in their back yards more than their families and immediate neighbors can eat, but letting it fall off the plant and rot in the soil isn't a waste, because it only helps with next years crop!

You buy furniture.  You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life.  Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your sofa issue handled.  Then the right set of dishes.  Then the perfect bed.  The drapes.  The rug.  Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you.  Chuck Palahniuk
