Official CNN Republican debate thread.

Mod's, I picked the pub because it gets more traffic if you wish to move the thread please do so.
Anyone excited about the debate tonight? I'm looking forward to seeing the shit spews out of Romney, plenty and frothy anal sex guy's mouth's. Really disappointed that Gary Johnson is being excluded from this debate. He's like Ron Paul with less crazy. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Ron Paul and recently donated money to his campaign but, you've got to admit he's a little out there.

give 'em hell Ron. Once again they're gunna try and corner him and he's going to blast right back with unmatched intellect.
Ron Paul is not perfect, but the message is perfect. Liberty has no flaws.
seriously best RP video to date. Short, to the point and shows how much he really understands our world.

it'll be entertaining to watch how the debate moderator tries to take cheap shots at Ron Paul. he's always given a hard time in these debates.

"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

Sorry, poorly constructed sentence. What I meant was that those three politicians seem to be on a typical neo-conservative platform by doing the following: Romney with his health care in Massachusetts, pawlenty and santorum with their pandering to the christian fundamentalist, and arguing for fiscal responsibility without actually being fiscally responsible.

Yes, 2008 was horrible for this. Although, if you watched the fox news debate awhile back, they gave him the same respect as the other candidates.

Yes, he's very articulate and composed, but I don't buy his rhetoric.Maybe it's just me though. Lots of people seem to like him and he seems to be the MSM's pick as well. Whether I agree with all their positions or not, Paul, Cain, Bachmann, and Johnson(not at debate) at least come across as honest to me.

Very true.Often, that one thing becomes a collective of things. Space exploration gives me a hard on. Overall, it is a very small portion of the budget. You don't think we should explore space? I just don't see the incentive to private industry to carry it out yet.

Sorry, wasn't trying to make a strawman argument, just asking a question. You're right, it is against conservative principles, but we can easily handle NASA's budget with out raising taxes.
To Collie Man; The reason government should handle it is because it's not viable for private industry yet. In order to make it viable in the future, IMO government needs to be involved. Like I said earlier, I have a hard on for space exploration. If the majority thinks we should leave it alone then fine.

Sometimes an investment in infrastructure pays off big- I'd suggest that the interstate freeway system is an excellent example of a project too big for business, yet ultimately profitable for the nation.
space exploration might pay off the same way. It's already paid for itself, but could also be a huge windfall for the nation.

The government at this point in time doesn't haven't the resources to progress with the speed the private sector can. The motivation is high enough to were competition would be there. Competition leads to innovation.

Yeah, I understand that. I'd have voted for McCain if he was younger, and/or had picked a different VP. Seemed like the best of the bunch.

oh my god they didnt let Ron Paul answer the question on bases around the world. Good for them, Ron Paul would of ripped a hole in the space-time continuum if he was allowed to answer that

I wish someone wouldve counted how many times each candidate got to speak. i'm sure we all know who got the least chances.
and really guys come on....when ron paul speaks there is no doubt in my mind he is being honest. his voting record shows his honesty and credibility.
really voting record is one of the most important things to look at when deciding who to vote for

I'm not surprised with people like santorum, romney, or bachmenn. What I am surprised about is that they'd admit it in this climate.Obama hid his war mongoring policies.

debate was a bunch of tools acting toolish. what more can one expect from some corporately sponsored mixer they jokingly called a "debate"

I was aware of the possibilty of things being this way. I just had hoped things might have changed, if only just a little. Honestly, politics just make's me feel hopeless.

At least they just gave Ron Paul more time with the one-on-one here. That man has so much wisdom and life experience.

Ron Paul is not too bright. He honestly strikes me as being fairly senile. I don't want him to win.
Romney is too, though. Good thing he's essentially unelectable.

It's an ignorance of how American politics works that leads to Ron Paul's popularity on the Internet. Just because he voices the opinions of an unrepresented minority doesn't mean he can (or does) represent them. His positions are considered "fringe" in the mainstream, and it is simply not possible in our system for a fringe candidate to be elected president.

Ron has never voted to raise taxes. Ron has never voted for an unbalanced budget. Ron has never voted for the Iraq War. Ron has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership. Ron has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch. Ron has never voted to raise congressional pay. Ron has never taken a government-paid junket.
Ron voted against the Patriot Act. Ron votes against regulating the Internet. Ron voted against NAFTA and CAFTA. Ron votes against the United Nations. Ron votes against the welfare state. Ron votes against reinstating a military draft.
Ron votes to preserve the constitution. Ron votes to cut government spending. Ron votes to lower healthcare costs. Ron votes to end the war on drugs. Ron votes to protect civil liberties. Ron votes to secure our borders with real immigration reform. Ron votes to eliminate tax funded abortions and to overturn Roe v Wade. Ron votes to protect religious freedom.
RON PAUL IS THE ONLY CREDIBLE CANDIDATE

Do you have any reason to say that other than blind faith? Besides, it doesn't matter if the people support Ron Paul or not, that's not how this system works.

The people who call him 'Fringe' are the establishment tools who want to keep the same old Crony Capitalist System in place. That is, they don't want Constitutionalists to piss on their parade.

I only say "fringe" because his views are not supported by the mainstream political establishment, which is the Crony Capitalist System. I'd like for someone with his views to be elected, but it's just not gonna happen.

I've just lost faith in the federal government's capacity to respond to the demands of its citizenry. I think it's rotten to the core.
Local governments can be salvaged, though.

I think someone like Ron Paul would really help with local governments. I feel like that is really what we need, once states have their rights respected they can be more free to experiment with new laws/ideas,etc...
I'd like to think Ron Paul can win but imo i think he is sort of getting screwed by the media a bit. In a lot of the articles ive seen from this debate on the mainstream they barely even mention RP, but then again he does seems a bit more popular than last time around.

Of course he's getting screwed by the media. The media's extreme backing of obama in 2008 should have been a tip off on that he was going to be a neolib.
