watch the PF tek secion @ mushroomvideos.com
No need to be sterile while boiling the jars.
Take your shower & sterile procedure after sterilizing the jars.
Purchase Wide Mouth 1/2 Pint jars. (No shoulders)
Flame your needle until red hot between Each jar.
Don't incubate your jars, room temp 64-76F is fine.
Light is beneficial for mycelium @ all stages.
Ditch the air pump & make a proper SGFC.
I think that should help you on your way.

i also would use 2 cups verm to 1 cup water to cup brf.mixed in that order. in other words a 2-1-1 ratio. verm water brf.

yo, that Acurite hygrometer is gonna steer you wrong every chance it gets.
i got mine at home depot, and thought "YES! Score!" and later i thought "mother of pearl, why does it always say 99%?!" turns out, the little sensor seems to COLLECT water droplets and gives the wrong reading.
you want a couple of these bad boys http://www.bargainhumidors.com/bh/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=ACC-ANALOG hurry, they're on sale! 5$! best 5 dollars ive ever spent; easy calibration, fast shipping, yada yada.
listen to TL!
good luck brother, its easier than you think. read the directions, and dont make up your own shit (for your first 3 grows)

I agree with using a handy dandy analog hygro. Digital ones are a no no.

6/15 Inoculation done. I have 5 and 3 8 obviously being the total. i stored them in a plastic container with a lid. I put the container on the shelf in the closet with a blanket curtain covering it and a heating pad under set to mid which keeps it at around 78 +/-1.
6/16 Signs of spore growth already being seen at inoculation site.

i found that misting 3 times a day sill keep the humidity up. i think i used my humidity meter for like a week till i took it out and put it some where else to test something or what not. only thing i realized is after a month re hydrate the perlite. just makes the misting easier to judge if the perlite is taken care of monthly. but then again i have a good sense of things after watching the cycle of the FC for 3 weeks. i also found out that re hydrating the perlite every month will allow you some leeway if you have to miss a misting.
edit: take the covering off and remove the heating pad or you will run a possibility of loosing your jars or they will not colonize fully. that heating pad will make the bottoms dry out and the MYC will not colonize the bottom. i mean unless you live in alaska then my bad

room temperature (64-76F) is completely fine, the lower temps will slow colonization a bit, but that's fine as long as you're not in a rush, which you shouldn't rush things in mycology anyways.
Also, ambient/indirect sunlight is great for mycelium @ all stages of growth.

my first what he said but in all seriousness it can be a forgiving hobby unless you get the molds or bacteria. i was worried when i saw a bit of fuzz on top of that mono bucket. but then i told my self, it did not come up over night, it has not doubbled in less than a day, so i thought it out(without looking it up) and came to that conclusion of low FAE and went from there. shure enough i was right when i searched it 2 days later after i corrected the problem( i just took out the stuffing in the holes).
edit: ill admit i was worried about temps when my jars were colonizing but then i said forget it after seeing how manny ppl were loosing there jars to mold/bacteria in temps over 75 closer to 80. i wound up sticking them in a dreser drawer witch held a temp between 68-71(was winter time still so to say) and it really did not take that long. i mean i noticed a slow in growth going from 75-78 to the lower temps but not that much and they still fully colonized in a month. i mean extra time in my book is better than scrapping the whole thing., and guess what, i was right.
(btw i like tacos he he)

Ok so ive decided im going with a bulk tek rather then a "mini" tek suck as pf. Ive been readin and readin and fuckin readin haha and it just seems like i can do so much more then pf. My idea is to colonize my pf jars and crumble them into shake grain quarts. once colonized ill put them in the worm shit/wheat straw substrate in a rubbermaid mono im constructing. once it colonizes that about 90 percent or so im gunna case and finally fruit the whole mono. This shit is going down regardless but any suggestions or advice?
Edit- oh a question.. can i case it with only wet sterile verm? if not is there anything simpler then 50/50 im not trying to use peat moss or lime or any of that shit.. ive heard of eggshell?
Only on day three but the hamster wheel and lightbulbs keep comin

don't do it.
BRF produces just as well, if not better than, bulk.
