Portugese
German

I feel like 16 is almost an excess. There really aren't other languages that I'm interested in learning at the moment

At first sight, The Perfection of Wisdom is bewildering, full of paradox and apparent irrationality.

well... I'm Portuguese and speak fluent English. Spanish and French not so fluently, although I can easily understand general Spanish, French and Italian due to being Latin languages.

I'd love to know:

Latin, Sanskrit, Greek, Mandarin, Russian, Icelandic, Dutch, Creole, Afrikaans, German, Arab, oh boy... if I could I'd like to know any language that exists/has existed

Damn. I forgot Italian and Latin.

I can read and speak some Spanish and I can read and understand a little bit of Portuguese. But spoken Portuguese just blows my mind. I can't understand it at ALL.

Hehehe Portuguese can be really tough for a Germanic language native speaker, the phonetic is very different and we have some grammatical signs most English speakers have difficulty pronouncing such as "ão" for example, sounds like aum but its very nasal.

What do you know of Portuguese?

What do you know of Portuguese?

I know a few phrases and words, not much really. But I used to play an online game that had alot of players from Brazil. I made friends with some of them and would sit there for hours watching them converse in Portuguese and eventually I retained some of it. But now it has been so long since I've used it that I've forgotten most of what I did learn. I know some pronouns and random other words like "irmao, irma, sobrinho/a, obrigado/a, bom noite, beijo, etc." If you put together a simple sentence I can probably decipher most of it.

I also took Spanish in high school but I don't remember all that much of it either. But I think it helps that I have that background because it was really easy for me to pick up the Portuguese.

Also what is with Portuguese-speaking people hating on Spanish? Nearly everyone I talked to got pissed when I compared it to Spanish

One dirty phrase that I was taught that I will never forget: "Eu quero que seu caralho me foda."

I don't know how grammatically accurate it is but hey

:laugh2: that's brazilian portuguese for literally "I want your cock to fuck me" lol

I like Spanish people, the thing is, our country is really small and there are a lot of uninformed foreigners who think that Portugal is a province from Spain, apart from that I don't really understand what's up with that.

Yeah, if you studied Spanish it should be easier for you to learn Portuguese because grammatically they're similar.

Zuid Afrika gaan helaas.

^^ No this is not German. We got liberated so it's still considered Dutch.
