Duke Nukem Forever

hmm
dont know what to think about this one as yet
its kinda tedious in the first few levels
not fun
has me crawling through ductwork
and doing silly platform game type jumps
not really what im looking for in a fps
there is a dune buggy part of the game that just isnt fun. i mean its fun for a second but then just drags on and doesnt have you do anything but take a few jumps with the turbo button on
i dont know if this whole game is like this or if it gets better.
if i wanted a puzzle game id play portal 2 (which is a great fucking game) duke nukem doenst need to be crawling through ventilation systems or figuring out puzzles
ive played some great fps in the past year that include bulletstorm and crysis 2
both games have great replay value too because the levels are fun
this game is already tedious and there is nothing in the first few levels that i would consider fun
one of the boss fights just requires you to continually strafe while shooting and the second boss battle gives you a turret with infinite ammo and a single target to wail at until it explodes
i was a big dn3d fan and used to play the shit out of it when multiplayer meant calling my buddys 14.4 modem to deathmatch
the attitude is all there but the substance isnt
anybody play the later levels and know if it picks up any?
ps. having to shoot fire extinguishers to put out fires and move on to the next section is fucking lame

The two reviews I have seen are pretty bad.
Oh well, at least torrents are free, and I'll get a chance to myself later.
Dammit I was hoping for a fun game.

i really wanted to like this one too but it seems as if its stuck in the 90s
would have been a great game back then
now more modern FPS are a bit more fun

I'm surprised.
Zero punctuation gave it a rave review.
Dunno if he is being serious or not though.

you live in europe right? we don't get this in the u.s. until tomorrow the 14th. I played the demo, as was my pre order. and watched an entire walkthrough online, i know about the game, he goes to titty city, then duke burger, then monster truck races, then blows up a damn, etc.
I was a HUGE duke 3d fan, but this game isn't duke 3d. it's ok, the shooting is fun, and it's more explorational then most games these days. but it's no duke 3d. if you are expecting duke 3d, then this game will suck for you.
as you know, the company who made this game faced a law suit, and had to sell the i.p. to gearbox. gearbox just finished it, they didn't make the game. i don't know what 3d realms was doing for 14 years, but it looks like were taking extra long shits, and then spending the rest of the day making jokes about it when they got out of the bathroom and were in the office.

everyone keeps saying it's stuck in the 90's. i don't think it's anything like a 90s game. it's more like a quake rip off, with a story, using the duke nukem franchise, but then they redid everything with unreal 2. it's pretty lame. not at all like a doom or duke 3d game. I thought they were going to bring back old school, but it looks like they just ripped off half life 2, goldeneye, quake, duke nukem, and redid it with unreal 2.
pretty lame, unless down the road you end up paying $15 for it on ebay, then you might enjoy it. but just don't expect anything. these people did NOTHING with their 14 years of development.

yes that was an old review
but why should we doubt that he will come out with a brand new review?? after all, he loves smashing games, and that review was when he found out the game was still being released by gearbox. or was that the older one? he made another one first, dissing them for being sued.
the guy gives some hard reviews, he wasn't GREAT in his review towards bioshock or dead space, but he HATES duke, at least he has RIPPED on duke forever's development cycle.. well enough.

So far DNF is pretty boring. Only got as far as the mini me in the car but I doubt I will be finishing this one.
I wonder if it is just that old franchise mentality. I didn't like Doom 3, quake 4 and I am thinking this old formula is just going to make me dislike DNF. Ah hell, I never liked Unreal 2 either.
I think I am destined to dislike this one. Maybe I should wait until I am to start this one up again.
The environment/physics and controls just feel dated.
I'll get back to this one another time.
(I also need some canned air, yikes, I got a good temp spike)

who can blame you, games like quake 4, doom 3, unreal 2, and duke nukem forever are cheap fucking knock offs of original games without the same formula but using a newer engine. at least quake 4, doom 3, and unreal 2 didn't take 13 fucking years to make though.
I think this game is trash, the only reason I bought it is because I'm a duke 3d fanatic. hell, I'm a doom fanatic, but anyway, doom 2 came out awhile ago, so I wasn't teased with 12 years of corporate marketing garbage and delays the way I was with this game.
if nothing else playing team death match on hollywood holocaust is hopefully fun. this game is just entirely crap... I wonder what took so long anyway.. like I said, doom 3 and quake 4 didn't take this long to make.

I read this entire thread. So far, most of you are saying negative things about this game!
I have the original Duke 3D cd and manual... All the weapons appear to be the same as the 3d version as well as the enemies.
Yes, I did pickup on the fact that a team has put together clever puzzles that make you search for clues in the game. They can be annoying at first, but once you grasp the simple concepts that the team used to make them, you'll find the answers and clues to be obvious... nothing wrong with a little brain power. If you find yourself stuck on a puzzle, consult this walkthrough : http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2011/06/10/duke-nukem-forever-walkthrough-video-guide-pc-xbox-360-ps3.htm
The sounds on a 5.1 system with bass is stunning! Detailed enemies and environment features along with all the one-liners make it a great game.
The one feature I miss is the 'Mission Complete' statement that used to tally up the total time and number of kills, etc. after slamming on the Nukem symbol at the end of levels. lol redoing levels just to get a better score was what made me addicted to duke 3d.
Overall I am satisfied with the game! And yes, I have completed the entire game!

it's ok. I think it's a total failure compared to duke 3d.
when not compared to duke 3d, it's a fairly good linear shooter. the monster truck sequence is fun, and the multiplayer is actually a blast. at least I like it. you get unlimited ammo, your hindrance is only who shoots who first. not who reloads quicker.
i see it for what it is. and I haven't finished it yet. I'm heading towards the dam. well, most of the game is you heading towards the dam.
one thing I'm disappointed about, is the stuff they removed, the game was supposed to have duke clones factory, a chick named bomb shell who saves you. ehh... w/e, at least it's out, after 14 years. that was an epic journey. I almost can't believe it.

Yeah I played it a bit more last night and a bit this morning. It's not as bad I first thought it was.
So I have to agree, it's okay.
I'll probably spend some quality time with it tomorrow morning and get a better view on it.

I have it for PC and the game is exactly what I wanted it to be; silly and entertaining. Also the multiplayer is pretty damn fun once you get past the lack of dedicated servers.
