Pictured is Luther Burbank sitting in front of a cactus he developed, known as the Spineless Cactus (circa 1908). As told in “Autobiography of a Yogi” by Paramahansa Yogananda, the cactus previously had thorns. Burbank, being an intuitive gardener and Yogi, spent several hours communicating with the cactus, conveying that he would keep it safe, and assured it that it no longer needed the prickly spines. Being a deeply spiritual man, he did this intuitively through meditation, with love.
“While I was conducting experiments to make ‘spineless’ cacti, I often talked to the plants to create a vibration of love. You have nothing to fear, I would tell them. You don’t need your defensive thorns. I will protect you!” – Luther Burbank
Eventually, all the spines fell away, resulting in the Spineless Cactus.
