Optimal fruiting conditions in a martha
    #14605181 - 06/13/11 09:34 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Things I have:
6500k bulb
Cool mist humidifier
A Martha Shelf

Will the Cool Mist humidifier be enough for the FAE?
Should I air out the Martha couple of times a day?
Is it okay for me to grow in an OPENED closet with the window open across the room?

Marthas are used in this hobby as a kind of makeshift greenhouse.  They were originally designed to keep moths out of clothes.  First introduced in the Martha Stweart line of goods.

best conditions for a martha??

Same as any other fruiting chamber.

Good fresh air exchange
High humidity
Bright light in the daylight range.

You will need a timer for your coolmist to switch it on and off when needed. And a hygrometer to keep an eye on humidity levels while you tweek it. This will take some playing around with because theres no 1 setting. what works for 1 doesnt for another. You know its too much if your marthagreenhouse is flooding. too little and your humidity drops.

theres plenty teks on the subject.

You know what changed the game for me though?  The cycle timer that runs the two 6 inch fan strategically placed in the GH.  They go on for 30 seconds and are off for 1 minute, thus replicating a steady breeze.  My mushies have never been happier.  I can walk away for like 3 hours, come back, and see significant growth when i come back.  I believe it's due to the fog that my ultra sonic puts out (15on/15off) and the steady breeze my fans provide.  you know, just like the outdoors.

Oh and i should mention the strategically placed holes. I have 3 per tier, with the exception of the bottom tier.  They're 2x2in in size, with the flap of plastic that i cut from left intact.  they're only on the door and they're spaced evenly apart from one another.  Normally this would not be enough for FAE, but with my cycle controlled fans, they end up being more than enough of an opening.

Not to take away from Veda but i don't use coolmists any more, i just don't think they're necessary.

Lastly i want to mention that, yes, my Rh does drop (to about 70%) during the off periods of the Ultra sonic.  But here's the thing... that's good! A slight saturation then evaporation of the mycelium is how you incite pins.  And it's not enough time for the established mushies to suffer.  They love having a bit of condensation (and i mean very small beads of water) on them for a few minutes then dried off shortly thereafter.

Sorry for the rants, but i love talking about my GH.
